Blue Hose Fall in Pair of Matches at UNCW Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C.. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose volleyball team (0-3) began the day with a 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 20-25, 23-25) loss to the Fordham Rams and then PC finished the day with a 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 20-25) setback to the host UNCW Seahawks on the final day of the UNCW Hampton Inn University Invitational.
 
How It Happened vs. Fordham
  • Blue Hose recorded five of the first seven points jumping out to an early 5-2 lead. Presbyterian pushed their lead to 10-5 after a kill by Hannah Rowe. Fordham scored nine of the next 13 points tying the score at 14. A kill by Kasey Battle started a PC 5-0 scoring run as the Blue Hose took a 19-14 lead. Fordham cut Presbyterian's lead to three on two different occasions but the Blue Hose would win the set 25-21.
  • In set two, Fordham scored five of the first six points taking a 5-1 lead. Presbyterian went on a 5-1 run tying the score at six. Fordham scored three straight points regaining the lead for good, 9-6. The Blue Hose were able to cut Fordham's lead to one at 10-9 but then the Rams outscored the Blue Hose 15-9 to take the second set, 25-18.
  • In the third set, Fordham scored nine of the first 12 points of the set. Then, the Blue Hose scored five straight points cutting Fordham's lead to 9-8. Presbyterian would not get any closer to Fordham as the Rams won the set, 25-20.
  • In the fourth set, Presbyterian scored the first two points. Then, Fordham scored eight of the next 14 points tying the score at eight. With the score tied at nine, Presbyterian behind kills by Battle and Ashley Miller and a Fordham attack error scored three straight points. Fordham scored six of the next seven points taking a 15-13. The score would be tied six times until with the score tied at 23, Fordham scored two straight points to win the set, 25-23.  
 
 
How It Happened vs. UNCW
  • In the first set, PC scored three of the first four points paced by two kills from Battle. UNCW scored 12 of the next 17 points taking a 13-8 lead. PC scored two straight points cutting UNCW's lead to 13-10. The Seahawks went on a 5-1 run taking an 18-11 lead. The Blue Hose scored six straight points cutting UNCW's lead to 18-17. The Blue Hose were not able to get any closer as UNCW outscored PC, 7-3 to take the first set, 25-20.
  • In Set two, PC jumped out to a 2-0 lead which included a kill by Courtney Williams. UNCW scored five of the next six points taking a 5-3 lead. Presbyterian outscored UNCW, 7-3, to move back in front 10-8. UNCW scored three straight points regaining the lead. The score would be tied four times including 16-16. Then, UNCW scored two straight points regaining the lead for good eventually winning the second set, 25-23.
  • In set three, Miller recorded a kill to start the scoring off. UNCW scored seven of the next 10 points taking a 7-4 lead. PC scored four of the next five points tying the match at eight. UNCW would regain the lead. The two teams exchanged points. With the match tied at 12, the Blue Hose scored three straight points highlighted by kills by Julia Yurkovich and Battle. UNCW scored four of the next five points tying the score at 16. With the score tied at 18, UNCW scored three points regaining the lead for good. UNCW closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the set.  

Notables
  • Battle led the Blue Hose with 20 kills on the day.
  • Rowe had 18 kills and 22 digs in the two matches.
  • Williams recorded 10 kills in the two matches.
  • Seven PC players recorded double-figure digs in the two matches: Rowe with 22, Amaris Alvarez with 19, Sophia Del Valle with 18, Miller with 15, Anna Baranski and Kinsey Bailey recorded 12 digs apiece, and Aulbaugh rounded the category with 10 digs.
  • Bailey had 33 assists and Baranski had 24 assists in the two matches.
