Blue Hose Fall to Charlotte on Sunday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's tennis team (1-1) lost to the Charlotte 49ers (2-0) with a final score of 6-1 on Sunday, January 14.

COACH ROBERT'S THOUGHTS
"Tough one today but I was very pleased with how we competed. The doubles point was very intense and could have gone either way. Charlotte is a very good team so credit to them. Excited to have a week to prep and then play South Carolina next."

DOUBLES
The 49ers earned the doubles point with wins in all three spots. At No. 2, Presbyterian's McKenzie Davis and Madison Dennett lost 6-4 to Charlotte's Emma Wilkins and Lucie Petruzelova. At No. 3 Charlotte's Lucia Aranda and Shona Nakano defeated Presbyterian's Valentina De Sousa and Claudia Sanchez 6-4, to clinch the doubles point.
 
SINGLES
Charlotte won the first four singles matchups in spots No. 1, No. 6, No. 2, and No. 4. Charlotte's top player, Lucia Quiterio, is ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings. At No. 5 singles, Presbyterian's De Sousa beat Charlotte's Wilkins 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) to give the Blue Hose their first point. At the No. 3 spot Presbyterian's Mathilde Delaney lost a close one to Charlotte's Aranda 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

The Blue Hose are back on the road Sunday, January 21 to play a match against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
