The Blue Hose took a close 69-66 victory over Longwood last Saturday for a much-needed conference win. Four PC players helped the team by scoring double-figure points. Sjokvist led the team with 20 points while Brady, Neira, and Herrin each added 14 points to Presbyterian's efforts. Along with Sjokvist's fourth 20 plus point game, she also played the full 40 minutes, totaled four assists, two steals, shot 8-of-16 from the field, and 4-of-9 from distance. Herrin scored a new career-high of 14 points while tying her career-high of three assists. As a team, the Blue Hose tallied 18 assists, shot 49 percent (24-of-49) from the field, and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from outside the arc.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
Radford has a 5-1 Big South record with wins over High Point, Longwood, Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, and UNC Asheville. The Highlanders have averaged 57.8 points per game and 36 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Ashlyn Traylor-Walker leads the team with 16.3 ppg, 4.4 defensive rebounds per game, 0.7 blocks per game, 1.5 steals per game and 2.7 apg. Graduate student forward Taniya Hanner leads the team with 6.9 rpg and 3.3 offensive rebounds per game. She also averages 10.5 ppg, 0.6 blocks per game, and has shot 46.6 percent from the field.
BLUE HOSE DOUBLE FIGURE SCORERS
Over their first 21 games, Presbyterian has had nine different players who have scored in double-figures. Brady (15 times), Sjökvist (14 times), Neira (11 times), Kierscht (three times), Cunill (three times), Kindseth (twice), Herrin (twice), Kline (once), and Carrillo (once) have all tallied double-digit scoring games this season.
PRESBYTERIAN – RADFORD SERIES
Saturday marks the 36
th time that these two teams have met since Presbyterian joined Division I in 2007. Their first game was in the 2007-08 season where Radford won 70-49. Last season, PC beat Radford 78-65 early into conference play before Radford beat them later in the regular season 71-50. The last time that these two teams faced off was in the post season last year, where Presbyterian took a heartbreaking 69-68 loss. Radford leads the all-time series between the two teams 26-9.

As a team, Presbyterian leads the conference with 13.7 assists per game, a 0.8 assist to turnover ratio, and a +3.1-rebounding margin. The team is ranked second for shooting at 39.5 percent from the field and with their -1.0-scoring margin. Individually, the Blue Hose have three players who are ranked in the top 10 for scoring, Neira is ranked sixth for her 13.1 ppg, Brady is listed at eighth with 12.7 ppg, and Sjokvist is in ninth with 12.4 ppg. Sjokvist is also ranked third for averaging 3.4 apg. Neira leads the league for averaging 2.6 three-point field goals per game and she is ranked second with a 35.6 three-point field goal percentage.
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS
Presbyterian beat the Columbia College Koalas 62-53 on Sunday, December 31. Brady scored a new season-high of 27 points while shooting 73.3% (11-of-15) from the field. She also shot 62.5% (5-of-8) from the free throw line and dished out two assists. Defensively, Brady helped the team hold the Koalas to no points for almost 11 minutes in the second half. She added four rebounds and a block to her efforts. This is the second time that Brady earned this award and the fourth Big South Player of the Week award that the Blue Hose have received so far this season.
