Jamahri Harvey as the Blue Hose (9-7, BSC: 1-0) defeated the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (4-10, BSC: 0-1), 68-61, on the road on Wednesday evening in their Big South Conference opener.
BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBER – Barnett leads the team in scoring averaging 13.3 points per game while grabbing 4.4 rebounds and distributing 2.8 assists per game. Barnett leads the Big South in steals with 30 averaging 1.88 steals per contest. Teel is second on the team in scoring averaging 11.8 points per game while dishing out 2.8 assists per game. DOUBLE-DOUBLES - Two Presbyterian frontcourt players have recorded double-doubles this season. Scott scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Presbyterian's win over Johnson & Wales (December 30). Pierce scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Tennessee Tech (November 22).
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS - Mincy has been named Big South Freshman of the Week twice (December 11 and December 18). He earned his first Big South Freshman of the Week award on December 11, Mincy scored 11 points, dished out three assists, and grabbed two rebounds against Florida A&M (December 6). He claimed his second Big South Freshman of the Week award on December 18. For the week, he averaged 12 points while shooting 50 percent from the field (9-for-18). He averaged 4.5 assists, two steals, and two rebounds in the two games.
He scored 11 points (shooting 4-for-5 from the field) with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in Presbyterian's win over Mid-Atlantic Christian on December 13.
In his first career start, he scored 13 points while dishing out seven assists with two steals against Kennesaw State on December 16.
Barnett garnered Big South Player of the Week honors (November 20). Barnett is the eighth different Blue Hose player to earn the Big South Men's Basketball Player of the Week award in the program's history. For the week, he averaged 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game in helping lead the Blue Hose to a 3-1 record last week with a home win over The Citadel, a road win at North Florida, and a neutral site win over Northwestern State.
PAINT TOUCHES - Presbyterian recorded their fifth 50-plus points in the paint scoring game with 60 points in the paint in the win over Johnson & Wales (December 3). The 60 points in the paint against Johnson & Wales marked the most points in the paint in a single game by the Blue Hose since scoring 60 points in the paint at UNC Asheville (February 26, 2022). The Blue Hose posted their fourth 50-plus points in the paint scoring game with 52 points in the paint against Kennesaw State (December 16). PC collected their third 50-plus points in the paint scoring output of the season with a season-high 58 points in the paint in the win over Mid-Atlantic Christian (December 13). The Blue Hose scored 56 points in the paint at Elon (November 27). PC scored 50 points in the paint against CIU (November 9). The Blue Hose average 39.4 points per game in the paint.
BENCH POINTS - The Blue Hose behind three double-figure scorers off the bench in the win over Mid-Atlantic Christian (December 13) tallied 55 bench points. The 55 bench points are the most scored by PC since recording 58 points in the win over Allen last season, December 19, 2022. Presbyterian averages 30.5 bench points while having 19 double-figure scoring games off the bench this season.
PC COACH QUINTON FERRELL - Quinton Ferrell is in his fifth season as the head coach of his alma mater, Presbyterian College. Ferrell, a former Blue Hose team captain and a 2007 PC graduate, is one of 50 coaches in the NCAA Division I ranks who are coaching their alma maters.
PRESBYTERIAN-UNC ASHEVILLE SERIES
Saturday's game will be the 39
th meeting between Presbyterian and UNC Asheville, who leads the all-time series 27-11. UNC Asheville has won the last five meetings between the two teams but those five games were all tightly contested with two of the games ending in overtime. Barnett scored 21 points, Reddish-Rhone scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Stewart scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds in the last game the two teams played in Templeton which UNC Asheville collected a narrow victory over the Blue Hose, 76-72, on February 11, 2023.

The Bulldogs were picked first in the Big South preseason coaches' poll after winning the regular-season and conference tournament titles last year. Forward Drew Pember, who was the Big South Player of the Year last season, averages 18.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game this season. Senior guard Fletcher Abee leads the Big South Conference with 44 three-point field goals made. He averages 11.8 points per game. Senior guard Josh Banks is second on the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game. UNC Asheville averages 82.5 points while allowing their opponents to average 74.4 points per game.
