PC Stacks Up 35 First-Half Points, Races Past Stetson for First PFL Win

DeLAND, Fla. – The Presbyterian College football team unleashed a performance in the rushing attack of epic proportions on Saturday afternoon in the Sunshine State, setting numerous D-I era records en route to a 42-14 whipping over Stetson.

Frustration in recent weeks boiled over and turned into motivation for the Blue Hose, who assembled 35 points in the opening half without resorting to a single punt. PC collected 663 yards of total offense (their most in three years), with 329 yards on the ground.

That's the highest number of rushing yards that Presbyterian has ever recorded against a Division I opponent (third-most in any game since 2007).

Head coach Steve Englehart's club posted their highest-ever point total in a Pioneer Football League meeting, simultaneously allowing the fewest number of points in any of their 29 PFL matchups.

The Blue Hose led from start to finish on Saturday, winning their second PFL game on the road since joining the division in 2021.

Five of PC's six touchdowns came on a designed run, the second-most rushing TD's in a single game since the school jumped to D-I 17 years ago.

Coach E and company will head back home next weekend to face off with Dayton, looking to continue their mid-season momentum back at Bailey Memorial Stadium.

COACH ENGLEHART'S THOUGHTS

"Today was a great feeling of victory, and I'm incredibly proud of the fight that our players have shown in the past month. It's been a long few weeks with close defeats, but our guys just kept showing up and going to work. They never quit."

"Our staff asked them to play with precision today, and I think we did that on all units. This was a complete team win, and one that I'm especially fond of considering everything that they've been through recently."

NOTABLES

- All of Presby's first-half drives ended in seven points, as four different players managed at least one rushing TD.

- Antonio Wright and Quante Jennings matched each other in the stat sheet, becoming the first PC teammates in a full decade to both go for 100 rushing yards in the same contest (106 apiece).

- Presbyterian's five rushing touchdowns are the most since 2014 versus Bluefield, tying the second-most in their D-I history (they also acquired five scores in the ground game at VMI in their inaugural campaign as a Division I squad).

- The Blue Hose averaged eight yards per carry throughout the first half, eventually surpassing their previous record for most rushing yards against a D-I foe (Gardner-Webb in 2017) by 32 yards.

- Redshirt-freshman QB Collin Hurst – who was recently named to the 30-man Jerry Rice Award Watch List for consideration as the best rookie in FCS football – added 297 yards through the air while completing 14 of 22 attempts.

- On a day where most of the attention went to PC's rushing mania, junior wideout Dominic Kibby seized a record of his own by taking a 94-yarder to the house in the 3rd quarter.

- That was the 15th receiving touchdown in Kibby's college career, moving past Terrence Butler for the most in Presby's Division I era.

- Last season, Kibby broke the Blue Hose record for longest pass play from scrimmage with a 93-yard catch-and-run at Butler. On Saturday, he did even better and is now responsible for PC's two longest receptions in history.

- Kibby averaged 42 yards per catch in the blowout, yet another single-game record for the program (minimum of three grabs).

- Junior corner Caleb Francis landed his third interception in as many games to turn Stetson over on downs in the 3rd. That was one two INT's for the Scotsmen, the other coming from newbie Ryan Largin to slam the door with 63 seconds left.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FIRST HALF

- PC embarked on four separate drives in the first two quarters that went for at least 75 yards. Their first series was finished off by freshman Justin Montgomery from the one, his third score of the fall and second TD in as many weeks.

- The only points of Stetson's first half came on their opening drive, a nine-play sequence that similarly went for 75 yards.

- Coach E's crew then went on a 28-0 run to close out the half, with all of those touchdowns submitted on the ground.

- PC's second series started at their own 46, needing only four plays to break the early tie. CJ Johnson was the next Blue Hose to find the end zone, his first-career touchdown as a redshirt-freshman.

- Holding a 14-7 advantage after the first 15, the garnet and blue outscored Stetson 21-0 in the second stanza to all-but-confirm the beatdown.

- Hurst executed a perfect fake at the goal line to put Presby ahead by two scores, ending an 88-yard march that was carried out in 10 snaps.

- With 9:36 still on the clock until intermission, Francis disrupted a deep pass on 4th down to prevent the Hatters from scoring at the 15.

- Still in front 21-7, the Blue Hose ballooned the lead even more on a 33-yard sprint by Johnson, his second TD of the day and his longest career rush to this point.

- Stetson made the mistake of punting to PC with three minutes still on the board, leading to Presbyterian's fifth straight touchdown drive and a 35-7 cushion at the break.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SECOND HALF

- The home side offered a brief glimpse of a comeback with a 10-play scoring drive to begin the 3rd period, although they'd be held scoreless for the rest of the contest.

- With 4:28 to go until the final quarter, the Blue Hose surged back in front by 28 following Kibby's longball.

- Francis' leaping pick meant that PC would begin that series at their own one-yard line. After Jennings gave his team some space with a five-yard run, Hurst lobbed a perfect pass to Kibby who did the rest and cemented the final points of the game.

- For the entire game, the Hatters would post just 72 yards when running the ball. That is the fourth straight PFL game where the Blue Hose have held their opponent under 100 yards on the ground.

UP NEXT

- Claiming their first PFL W of the year, Presby will go for two straight as they'll gear up for their 10th weekend in a row of hitting the field.

- The Dayton Flyers will enter Clinton on November 2, kicking off at 1:00 PM on ESPN+.

- Coach Englehart's gang pulled out an overtime win in their last matchup against Dayton, winning 20-17 on a walk-off 34-yard field goal from Mack Mikko in the middle of a downpour.

- That was PC's first-ever Pioneer League triumph, leading 17-0 to start the 4th and holding on to win in OT.

- Starting this season 5-1 with three straight wins over conference enemies, the Flyers were dealt an upset loss on Saturday as they fell to Morehead State 14-6.

- Dayton's only points of the day came in the 3rd on back-to-back kicks, held out of the end zone for the entirety of the game.
