Presbyterian Battled South Carolina to the End

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (7-8) battled the South Carolina Gamecocks (10-3) down to the end before coming up short, 69-59.
 
Kory Mincy led all scorers with 27 points. Kobe Stewart added 13 points to the Blue Hose's efforts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Mincy scored the game's first basket with a jumper 20 seconds into the contest. Presbyterian scored seven of the game's first 10 points taking an early 7-3 lead after a three from the wing by Stewart at the 16:52 mark. South Carolina scored 10 of the next 15 points taking a 13-12 lead at the 11:21 mark. Presbyterian scored eight straight points regaining the lead 20-13 after a layup from Kaleb Scott at the 8:30 mark. Mincy, Stewart, and Jaylen Peterson also scored during the run. After a three from Stewart, the Blue Hose increased their lead to 25-16 with just over seven minutes left in the half. South Carolina scored six straight points cutting PC's lead to three points. The Blue Hose responded by scoring seven of the half's final nine points taking a 32-24 halftime lead.
  

SECOND HALF 
– After a couple of free throws from Mincy a couple of minutes into the half, the Blue Hose had a 36-26 lead. South Carolina scored 16 of the next 21 points taking a 42-41 lead with 11:14 on the clock. The Blue Hose regained the lead after five straight points from Mincy with a driving layup and a three from the top of the key pushed the Blue Hose back in front 46-42 with ten and a half minutes left in the game. South Carolina scored six of the next eight points tying the score 48 with 7:51 on the clock. Stewart scored in the lane pushing the Blue Hose back in front, 50-48. Then, South Carolina went on an 11-0 run regaining the lead for good with nine of the 11 points coming from the free throw line.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Mincy collected his third 20-point scoring game of the season with 27 points.
  • Stewart recorded his 11th double-figure scoring game of the season with his 13 points. He also grabbed six rebounds in the game.
