CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team (16-13, BSC: 7-6) beat the Winthrop Eagles (12-14, BSC: 6-7) behind 46 points in the paint and a final score of 62-40.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Tilda Sjokvist took the first basket of the night before some back and forth to make the score 4-4 early in the first quarter. The Eagles took a 7-6 lead before Sjokvist hit the first three of the night to put PC ahead 9-7. After a total of five lead changes and four ties throughout the first quarter, time expired with PC trailing by one and a score of 13-12.
Second Quarter – After a scoreless first minute of the second quarter, Winthrop struck first with a two-point jumper which gave them a three-point lead. Presby scored the next four points to take a 16-15 lead, but Winthrop answered with a three-point bucket. The Blue Hose tied it up at 18 points apiece behind another two-points from Sjokvist before the Eagles made another go ahead three. The blue and garnet earned the next six points, and a three-point lead, with four coming from
Bryanna Brady. Winthrop was able to get up to 23 points, but over the last four minutes of the first half Presbyterian scored nine unanswered points to send us to halftime with a score of 33-23.
Third Quarter – After an even start with both teams scoring four points over the first four minutes of the second half, Presby's 10-point lead was pushed to a score of 37-27. Over the next two minutes, both teams picked up just one more basket to make the score 39-29. The third quarter finished with PC still holding a 10-point lead and a 46-36 score, behind six more points from Brady.
Fourth Quarter – The Blue Hose scored seven of the first eight points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 16 points. The Eagles hit a three-point shot at the 7:35 mark, but PC kept their momentum alive scoring the last nine points of the night while impressively holding Winthrop to no points throughout the rest of the game. The game ended with Presbyterian in front with a score of 62-40.
NOTABLES
- This is the largest conference scoring margin that we have seen from the program since Feb. 15, 2020 when PC beat Charleston Southern by 23 points.
- The team recorded 46 points in the paint.
