PC Falls to High Point After a Close Four Quarters

Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team (12-12, BSC: 3-6) lost to the High Point Panthers (12-10, BSC: 7-2) after 11 lead changes with a final score of 64-59.
 
COACH SHARP'S THOUGHTS
"I thought we competed and played really hard. We played hard enough to win the game and we played with a lot of spirit. Obviously disappointed we couldn't get the win today, but we did a lot of things well and a lot of things that equal winning basketball."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter –
Bryanna Brady won the opening tip and followed up with a layup for the first two points of the game. Brady went on to score another layup before High Point took the next five points and a one-point lead. High Point extended their lead to three points, but the Blue Hose went on a six-point run to head to the first media timeout with a 10-7 lead. After some back and forth Natalie Herrin made a three-point play to put PC ahead by six points with a score of 17-11. The Panthers were able to grab one last layup before time expired, ending the first quarter with PC leading 17-13.
 
Second Quarter – HPU scored the first seven points of the second quarter to take a three-point lead with a score of 20-17. Paige Kindseth made a fadeaway jumper in the paint to end the Panthers streak. High Point scored three more points before the Blue Hose took the next five points behind a three-point bucket from Mara Neira. HPU made two free throws to end the first half with a one-point lead and a score of 25-24.
 
Third Quarter – After a scoreless first minute of the third quarter Christina Kline gave the Blue Hose a two-point lead with a three pointer from the top of the arc. The Panthers tied up the game at 27 points apiece after a pair of free throws, but Neira took a layup to hold the lead. Two more points from High Point kept it tied, but Neira hit another three-point shot to make the score 32-29. High Point scored five of the next eight points despite another three from Neira to make the score 35-34 with PC ahead by one point. With a tie score of 40 points apiece and 54 seconds left on the clock, High Point went up by two points with a layup. Sjokvist made a layup of her own to keep the game tied at 42 points each. The Panthers went up by one with a free throw, but Neira made a buzzer beater layup to give the Blue Hose a 44-43 lead at the end of the third quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter – High Point scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to take a seven-point lead with a score of 51-44. After some back and forth High Point had a four-point lead with 1:37 left in the game. The Panthers extended their lead to six points with a score of 58-52 with 1:16 left on the clock. Herrin made a big time three pointer with a minute left to play to make it a three-point game. High Point made a layup to make the score 60-55 with 43.8 seconds on the clock. PC was forced to foul which led to two made free throws for HPU. Sjokvist made a corner three point shot to make the score 62-58. High Point sank two more free throws to ice the game with a final score of 64-58.
