Blue Hose Take a Pair of Wins Over Belmont Abbey

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's tennis team (4-4) beat the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (4-5) in both matches of today's double header.
 
GAME #1 – Presbyterian 4, Belmont Abbey 3
DOUBLES
- Presbyterian's Valentine De Sousa and Claudia Sanchez started off strong at the No. 3 spot winning 6-1 over Belmont Abbey's Rebekka Collyer and Kaitlin Nguyen.
- McKenzie Davis and Madison Dennett won the doubles point for the Blue Hose after defeating Belmont Abbey's Daniella Galeano and Lily Aranyos 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
- Lucianna Piedra and Mathilde Delaney finished off the doubles series with a 7-6 (7-4) win at the No. 1 spot against BAC's Frankee Hendricks and Alexis Burkhalter.
 
SINGLES
- The Crusader's Collyer evened out the score quickly after beating the Blue Hose's M.C. Dailey 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.
- Claire Giddings took back the lead for PC with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot against Belmont Abbey's Aranyos.
- Again, BAC tied the score up at two points apiece after Elizabeth Vollmin beat PC's D'Estree Colalancia at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-0.
- At the No. 2 spot Presby's Sanchez gave the Blue Hose a 3-2 lead after defeating BAC's Nguyen 6-1, 6-3.
- Presbyterian's Davis clinched the first match with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot against the Crusader's Frankee Hendricks.
- Valentina De Sousa unfortunately had to retire due to an injury at the No. 3 spot after a 6-3, 3-3 score against Belmont Abbey's Leilany Sanchez.
 
 
GAME #2 – Presbyterian 7, Belmont Abbey 0
DOUBLES
- The Blue Hose quickly jumped ahead by one point after a doubles sweep with wins from Davis and Delaney at the No. 1 spot, Piedra and Sanchez at the No. 2 spot, and then Giddings and Colalancia at the No. 3 spot.
 
SINGLES
- Piedra earned PC's second point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot over Belmont Abbey's Vollmin.
- Colalancia beat the Crusader's Aranyos at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-2.
- Dailey defeated BAC's Galeano 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot for her first singles win of the season.
- Presby's Claudia Sanchez took down Belmont Abbey's Leilany Sanchez 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.
- The Blue Hose's Davis got a win at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-4 over BAC's Burkhalter.
To finish off the day and secure the sweep Presbyterian's Giddings defeated Belmont Abbey's Collyer 7-5, 6-1.
