PC Bested by Panthers in Midweek Clash

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Loading up 11 goals in the first 15 minutes to create some early distance and earn a Big South Conference win, the Panthers of High Point downed the Presbyterian College lacrosse team on Wednesday evening by a final tally of 21-4.

Going up against a historically-dominant squad in the division and an opponent who ended up hitting at least 20 scores for the third contest in a row, PC was forced to play catch-up from the early moments and was unable to counter HPU's numerous 1st-period connections.

Ahead by 11 at the midway point, the home side limited the Blue Hose to one score over the last 30 minutes while showcasing seven players with at least two goals for the day.

Preseason All-Big South selection Willow Hammond offered up a trio of successful swings in three separate frames, followed by an additional goal from the program's all-time leader in that department, super-senior Abby Edmisten.

That duo has added up for a total of 35 scores since the season's genesis in February, 19 of which have been Hammond's doing to lead the roster.

Naomi Lauderbaugh and Kayleigh Aitken split their time in the keeper's box as they saw 28 shots come in their direction. Additionally, the Kyle Sullivan / Brooke Chandler combo wrestled their way to seven draw control victories.

UP NEXT

- The Blue Hose will finish their two-game road trip through the state of North Carolina with a visit to Gardner-Webb this Saturday, a matchup between longtime league rivals still searching for their first W in conference terrain.

- In fact, G-W hasn't been able to secure a victory full-stop in 13 attempts, last seen in a 20-6 losing effort against the same Panther unit that felled PC on Wednesday.

- Hoping for a dose of revenge after a one-point setback to the Runnin' Bulldogs in Clinton last spring, Presbyterian will go head-to-head with Gardner-Webb on April 13 at 1:00 PM.
