CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian won the doubles point and
Evgenios Vasilakis collected his fifth straight singles win but the Blue Hose (7-14) lost a tightly contested match, 4-2, to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (15-7), in the semifinals of the Big South Tournament at the Marion Diehl Tennis Center on Charlotte, N.C.
DOUBLES
With wins on courts one and three, Presbyterian captured the doubles point for the tenth time this season. UNC Asheville posted a win at number two doubles. Then, PC's doubles duo of Vasilakis and
Javier Matos recorded a 7-5 win at number one doubles. At number three doubles,
Pedro Cardoso and
David Mamalat clinched the doubles point for the Blue Hose with a 6-4 win.
SINGLES
UNC Asheville took a 3-1 lead with wins at number two, six, and five singles. At number five singles, Presbyterian's
Denim Yadav battled but lost in three hard-fought sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Vasilakis posted his ninth win of the season and his fifth in a row after rallying for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at number five singles. With the win, Vasilakis finished the season undefeated in singles against Big South competition. UNC Asheville won the overall match with a three-set win at number three singles. Javier Matos split the first two sets with UNC Asheville's Freddy Murray, and the third set was tied at two games apiece when the match was stopped since the Bulldogs had won the match.
