Blue Hose Honor Seniors in Saturday Setback Against Highlanders

CLINTON, S.C. – On a sunny Saturday afternoon where the Presbyterian College lacrosse team recognized five special seniors – Abby Edmisten, Kylie Sullivan, Emma Foard, Lily Clawson, and Juliana San Lucas – the Blue Hose couldn't quite overcome a match-starting 6-0 sprint from Radford, resulting in a 16-6 loss.

The first of the season's final/third all within Big South conference terrain, PC found half of their goal count from the group of aforementioned future graduates. Unfortunately for the Scotsmen, the Highlanders piled on nine scores in the second half to leave Bailey Memorial Stadium with the victory.

Radford attackers Margaret Gleason and Mady Cheney offered up six goals apiece for the visitors (who reversed last year's 14-5 walloping at PC's hands), while starting keeper Olivia Hunter snared eight saves against a Presby offense that accumulated 28 shots.

From here, head coach Eric Clakeley's squad will await their final week of the 2024 stretch, hosting Winthrop before making the short drive to Wofford next weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- While only able to acquire a sole strike in the first 30 minutes – courtesy of rookie Lauren Gray – Sullivan enabled PC to five second-half goals by punching back-to-back less than three minutes apart from one another in quarter number three.

- Clawson followed suit with 9:39 left in the last stanza, her first collegiate score as a junior who will be graduating early in May.

- Three of Presby's six connections on Saturday came from freshmen, as Kaylie Rittmueller and Emma Claire Mills added a couple of 4th-frame blows to compliment Gray's earlier cash-in.

- Radford engineered a four-run spurt from the 2nd into the 3rd, keeping up their streaky sequences by landing two different sets of 3-0 runs that spanned the final chapter.

- Draw controls were only separated by one at the end of the bout (13-12 in the Highlanders' favor), while both sides posted a 3-for-7 ratio in free-position swings.

- No stranger to causing havoc on the defensive end, sophomore Avery West was responsible for two Radford turnovers and four ground ball pickups.

- Naomi Lauderbaugh and Kayleigh Aitken split halves with 30 minutes apiece in the keeper's box, halting four attempts.

UP NEXT

- Both of Presbyterian's foes next week also reside in the state of South Carolina, welcoming Rock Hill residents from Winthrop on the 24th. Opening draw is scheduled for 5:00 PM in what will be the Bailey Memorial curtain call.

- The Eagles' lone Big South win occurred over Gardner-Webb (13-8), a group that PC edged out by an 11-10 clip in 2023. Winthrop is 1-13 altogether, hammered by Mercer in Macon on Saturday by a 22-5 margin.

- ESPN+ will have the call on Wednesday as Clakeley's crew aims for a feel-good ending to the Clinton saga this semester.
