Blue Hose Rally Past Buccaneers After A Six Run Eighth Inning

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After scoring six runs in the eighth inning, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (24-22, Big South: 14-6) rallied past the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (18-25, Big South: 9-8) for a 10-7 road win on Saturday evening.

Jay Wetherington and Jack Gorman led the Blue Hose with two hits apiece. Jake Randolph scored three runs while Brody Fahr and Wetherington scored two runs apiece.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Presbyterian scored the game's first run when Wetherington, who reached base on a single to center field, scored on a Charleston Southern wild pitch in the first inning.
  • After a two-hour rain delay, Charleston Southern took a 2-1 lead after a two-run home run by Dakota Miller over the center field wall in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Presbyterian quickly tied the score after Randolph led off the second inning with a solo blast over the center field wall.  Randolph's round-tripper was his third of the season.
  • The Buccaneers regained the lead, 3-2, with a run in the bottom of the second inning. CSU tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning.
  • PC got a run back in the seventh inning when Randolph scored on Rhogue Wallace's sacrifice fly to left field.
  • In the eighth inning, the Blue Hose took the lead for good with six runs on three hits. A single to center field by Joel Dragoo scored Wetherington, cutting CSU's lead to 5-4. Then, Jackson Hugus walked with the bases loaded, scoring Fahr with the game-tying run. Presbyterian took the lead after Dragoo scored on Gorman's sacrifice fly to left field. Eli Lazio had the big blow of the inning with a three-run double to left field, scoring Wallace, Hugus, and Randolph.
  • In the ninth inning, Presbyterian plated their 10th run when Fahr scored on a single to center field by Noah Lebron.
  • Charleston Southern cut Presbyterian's final margin of victory to 10-7 after scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the ninth inning.
NOTABLES
  • Starting pitcher Charlie McDaniel set the program's Division I record with his 53rd career appearance.
  • Tonight's 10-run offensive output marked the 12th time this season that the Presbyterian has scored double-figure runs.
  • Presbyterian has now won three straight games and five of their last six games.
  • With tonight's win, Presbyterian has now won six Big South series this season.
