Presbyterian Cruises Past VMI at Home

CLINTON, S.C..   – Behind two goals from Damorney Hutchinson and a goal and an assist from Iragi Kalala, and a dominant team defensive performance, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (3-2-1) blanked the VMI Keydets (2-4-0), 3-0, at Martin Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

"A classic professional win," Presbyterian coach Nick Finotti said. "It was a good performance by our guys. The game model was applied consistently. We created a number of scoring chances as evidenced by the number of shots and corner kicks we created. Total team effort on the shutout."  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 15th minute, Presbyterian's Steven Cordova's corner kick from the left side of the field found Sandro Rabarivony near the right post about eight feet from the goal. He tapped the ball to Kalala near the right post who punched it in for his second goal of the season.
  • In the 44th minute, Presbyterian's Bryce Burdette made a long pass from PC's defensive third of the field to a streaking Hutchinson just past midfield. Hutchinson beat two VMI defenders down the left side of the field and sent a shot from 10 yards out past VMI's goalkeeper Zack Murphy inside the right post.
  • In the 55th minute, Presbyterian with a beautiful buildup for a goal. Kalala with a great thru pass from the top of the box to Damian McGregor-Wickham down the right side. McGregor-Wickham crossed the ball to Hutchinson who tapped the ball into the back of the net.
  
NOTABLES
  • With Presbyterian's three goals in tonight's win, the Blue Hose have scored at least one goal in each of their first six games, which marks the first time in the program's Division I history that PC has accomplished this feat.
  • With his two goals tonight, Hutchinson has scored five goals this season and 12 in his career at Presbyterian. He has scored a goal in three straight contests while scoring two goals in each of the last two games.
  • In each half, Hutchinson scored goals that were called back due to offside calls.
  • Presbyterian's goalkeepers Loan Marin and Beatty Murray combined to record the Blue Hose's second shutout of the season.
  • Presbyterian's defense limited VMI to one shot which came in the 89th minute. The Blue Hose finished the game with a 20-1 advantage in shots. Hutchinson led the Blue Hose with eight shots. Kalala tallied three shots. Rabarivony and Carson Griffith recorded two shots apiece. Cordova, Eric Allen, Jourdan Spence, and Reudd Manin each contributed with a shot to the Blue Hose's offensive attack.
