Hall Wrangles 13 Saves in Soaked Cullowhee, PC Falls by One

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Precipitation was aplenty on Thursday night in the mountains of North Carolina, and despite a sensational defensive effort by senior Kelly Hall while ascending to a career-high in saves, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team was felled by Western Carolina 1-0.

In the second-to-last non-conference meeting of the year, PC held their own against last season's Southern Conference tournament champs. In the end, the bout was decided in the 13th-minute when the Catamounts propped up their lone goal.

Hall witnessed 21 shots come in her direction, breaking her own personal-best by three as she collected 13 denials. Seven of those saves came in the second period, shutting down any hopes by the home side of extending the lead.

The Blue Hose will remain on the road – weather permitting – at the tail end of the weekend, traveling to Mercer on September 15 for a 2:00 PM start.

FINAL SCORE: Western Carolina, 1 – Presbyterian, 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

- WCU was ultra-aggressive in the early going, reeling off eight shots in fewer than 13 minutes before breaking through. Hall had already scattered five saves before the match was 10 minutes old, going on to surpass her previous full-game record (10 saves) against Charleston Southern last year.

- What started as a tepid rain steadily grew to a gullywasher in the second half, a sequence where PC earned seven corner kicks in the game's final 23 minutes.

- Junior Ella Williams tallied two shots-on-goal while Gwen Keiser attempted the other. Five Blue Hose players braved the harsh conditions to play the full 90 in just the second-ever meeting between these two programs.

UP NEXT

- Presby heads to the state of Georgia in 72 hours for their fifth duel against a SoCon squad this fall, entering Mercer's grounds for the first time since 2018.

- In that matchup with the Bears six years back, PC reached a 2-1 W as part of a 5-1 start to that campaign. This year's crew equaled that mark by winning four consecutive games recently, taking an outright loss on Thursday for the first time in almost a full month.

- Mercer responded to a two-game losing skid by defeating Georgia State on their home turf, taking a 2-0 lead into the break on their way to win number five.

- Sunday's contest in the Peach State will be broadcasted live on ESPN+.
