Hutchinson Scores as Blue Hose Battled Hokies Down to the Wire

BLACKSBURG, Va.  – Presbyterian's Damorney Hutchinson scored the equalizing goal in the 71st minute, but the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-0-1) scored the go-ahead goal in the final 10 minutes to top the Presbyterian Blue Hose (1-2-1), 2-1.

"I am super proud of our guys," Presbyterian coach Nick Finotti said. "We felt like we should have gotten points out of this game. We have a lot of positives to take out of tonight's game."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 38th minute, Virginia Tech's Trey Gardiner scored the game's first goal off assists from Olafur Fioki Stephensen and Carter Hensley.
  • In the 71st minute, the buildup to Presbyterian's goal began with a pass from Steven Cordova in Presbyterian's defensive third to Sandro Rabarivony, who made a beautiful pass from the Blue Hose's defensive side of midfield to a streaking Hutchinson near the top of the left side of the box. Hutchinson blasted a shot from 20 yards out under the arms of Virginia Tech's goalkeeper Cooper Wenzel into the back of the net tying the score at one. Hutchinson's goal was his first of the season and the eighth of his career.
  • In the 81st minute, Virginia Tech's Stephensen scored off assists from Malick Thiaw and Alex Perez putting the Hokies back in front.
 
NOTABLES
  • In the 33rd minute, Presbyterian's Damian McGregor-Wickham cleared a ball off the line for a defensive save. In the 68th minute, Hutchinson also cleared a Virginia Tech shot off the line.
  • In the 72nd minute, Presbyterian nearly took the lead when Hutchinson banged a shot off the inside of the goalpost.
