Blue Hose Fall Short Against Gardner-Webb

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (2-13, 0-2) fell short against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (4-10, 1-1) after a very close 62-58 game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
After two minutes of play, Kishyah Anderson scored the opening points of the game with a three-pointer from the left side. Gardner-Webb answered with a three-pointer of their own, before the tie was pushed to eight points apiece behind buckets from Laney Scoggins and Anderson. The exchange of points continued as Anderson made a layup, but Aminata Tal's first basket of the day put the Blue Hose ahead 12-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter
Anderson continued to show her dominance in the second quarter as she wasted no time adding a layup. The Runnin' Bulldogs answered with a pair of free throws, but Ellie Southards kept the difference with her first layup of the day. Paige Kindseth drew a foul and made both of her shots to extend the Blue Hose's lead to 18-12. The opponents were able to score seven unanswered points and take a 19-18 lead before the media timeout. After the short break, the teams traded scores with PC baskets from Sonia Sato and Kindseth, but Gardner-Webb held a 23-22 advantage. Anderson added a late layup before Daniella Velez knocked down a buzzer beater three to extend Presby's cushion to 27-23 at the end of the first half.

Third Quarter
Kindseth opened the third quarter with a pullup jumper in the paint, but Gardner-Webb's Ashley Hawkins answered with a three-point play. Anderson was next to score as she was assisted by Kindseth. Velez made a contested layup, forcing the opponents to call a timeout with PC in front 33-26. The Runnin' Bulldogs sank a three-pointer before Southards answered with a triple from the corner. The next five points went to the Runnin' Bulldogs, cutting their deficit to 36-34. Fiddler halted the opponent's momentum and held the lead for the Blue Hose as she sank her first three of the day. Not long after, Southards knocked down another three for Presbyterian. Gardner-Webb took the last five points of the third quarter, but PC held a slim lead 43-41.

Fourth Quarter
Despite Velez's early three-pointer, the Runnin's Bulldogs took seven points, gaining a 48-46 advantage. Tal made a layup to even the score before she assisted Anderson to take a 50-48 lead. The opponents responded, taking the next seven points before Kindseth drew a foul to end their streak. After another basket from the Runnin' Bulldogs, Velez hit a big time three to stay within three points. An opponent layup put the Blue Hose down by five before Kindseth added two with a pair of free throws. Gardner-Webb added one back with a free throw, but Anderson's second chance layup cut Presbyterian's deficit to 60-58 with 8.1 seconds left in regulation. Ultimately, Gardner-Webb walked away with a 62-58 victory.
