CLINTON, S.C.  – Behind another strong defensive performance and a penalty kick goal from Steven Cordova, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-5-3, Big South: 2-2-0) blanked the Winthrop Eagles (1-9-1, Big South: 1-3-0), 1-0, at Martin Stadium on Saturday night.

"Big South wins are always good. We will celebrate every win, especially at home, especially in a conference game. We knew what was at stake here. We know what's going on in the Big South right now, and this result puts us in a good spot, moving forward with three conference games left. I'm super proud of the guys. Since the humbling result with Gardner Webb, we've been very good."

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 33^rd minute, Presbyterian's Iragi Kalala was fouled in the box by a Winthrop defender, which led to the penalty kick. Cordova calmly blasted the ball into the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal. The goal was the third of the season for Cordova.

NOTABLES

• Presbyterian goalkeeper Tim Baerwalde and defenders Bryce Burdette, Ole Smaaskjaer, Gabe Carvalho, and Javien Rambert, and midfielders Cordova and Jonas Sundli-Hardig anchored a Blue Hose defense that recorded its fifth shutout of the season.
• Baerwalde tallied four saves in the shutout.
• Presbyterian's five shutouts are the fourth most shutouts in a season in the school's Division I era.  
• Presbyterian finished the game with a 10-9 advantage in shots. AJ Acree paced the Blue Hose with five shots. Aloni Elfu recorded two shots. Cordova, Max Falconer, and Alessandro Libertucci tallied shots as well.
