Volleyball Rally Comes Up Short in Close Match at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team closed out the weekend at High Point on Saturday, falling to the Panthers in four sets on the road 14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 24-26 to drop to 0-5 in conference play.

 

The Blue Hose fell behind early but rallied back to even the match, taking the second set 25-21. High Point inched back ahead in the third, but PC stayed close in the fourth set. The Blue Hose tied the fourth set at 24 before the Panthers finished off the match, claiming the last two points to seal a 3-1 win.

The Panthers finished with match with an eight to four edge in service aces. High Point also had the advantage in kills, ending the afternoon with 60 for the contest.

 



SET ONE – HIGH POINT 25, PC 14

 

 

- The Panthers started the match strong out of the gates, winning six of the first seven points of the match to open the proceedings. Back-to-back attack errors from High Point followed by a kill from Ashley Miller gave PC three straight points to cut the deficit early to 6-4.

 

- The Blue Hose cut High Point's lead to one after a kill by Anisa Dorlouis and a Panther attack error, but High Point responded with five straight points to extend its lead to 15-9.

 

- The Panthers finished the set outscoring Presby 10-5 the rest of the way, grabbing the first set 25-14. High Point out served the Blue Hose with four service aces, also tallying 12 kills.



 

 SET TWO – PC 25, HIGH POINT 21

 

 

- In a back-and-forth set, the Blue Hose got out to a better start in Set Two, building a 9-7 lead highlighted by kills from Elyse Hutchinson, Julia Yurkovich, and Dorlouis.

 

- High Point tied the set at 10, but a kill from Courtney Williams put the Blue Hose back on top. The two teams traded leads to each other to follow with neither team leading by more than two points.

 

- After a Dorlouis kill put the Blue Hose up 15-14, PC began to finally separate from the Panthers, winning four straight points to take an 18-14 lead. Two more kills from Williams later gave Presby a 20-16 edge.

 

- High Point rallied with four straight points to tie the set at 20 before PC took over the rest of the set. The Blue Hose finished strong, closing the set with four consecutive points to take Set Two 25-21 and even the match.



 

 SET THREE – HIGH POINT 25, PC 21

 

 

- PC started fast again in Set Three, taking the first three points of the set with two attacking errors and a kill from Brittney Daphnis.

 

- Presbyterian maintained the lead early before the Panthers won five straight straight points to grab a 15-11 advantage to force a timeout. However, PC did not go away after High Point jumped in front, coming back to take four straight points to tie the set back up at 15 and force a Panther timeout.

 

- High Point followed with another run right after, winning four of the next five points to retake the lead. The Blue Hose were able to get within two of the lead down 20-18, but High Point finished off the set to grab a 2-1 lead over Presby.

 

 

 

SET FOUR – HIGH POINT 26, PC 24

 

 

- In a tight fourth set, PC inched ahead of the Panthers early, taking a 6-4 lead behind a kill from Hutchinson and a service ace by Sophia Del Valle. The Panthers rallied to take five of the next six points, but PC bounced back in the set to grab a 12-11 edge.

 

- Presbyterian was able to hold onto its lead before High Point rallied again, jumping out to a 19-17 lead later in the set. However, PC showed its resiliency once again, taking three straight points to move ahead of the Panthers 20-19 and force a High Point timeout.

 

- The two teams traded leads from one another the next couple of points late in the set. High Point broke a tie at 23 to set up a match point, but a kill from Ashley Miller kept PC's hopes alive in the match. 

 

- With the set tied at 24, High Point closed out the match on two attacking errors by the Blue Hose, clinching the set 26-24 and securing the win.



 

NOTABLES

 

- Anisa Dorlouis secured her second double-double of the weekend and her 14th overall on the season, leading the way for PC with 38 assists and 13 digs. She added two service aces as well.

 

- Dorlouis also tied her career-high in kills, recording eight for the match. 

 

- Courtney Williams delivered 12 kills offensively for the Blue Hose. This is the seventh match this season Williams has recorded double-digit kills for Presby.

 

- Aubrie Arnold logged 12 digs for PC. She has recorded double-digit digs in all but two contests this season.

 



UP NEXT

 

- Head coach Maddie Moss and the Blue Hose will return home next weekend in conference action. PC will face off against Gardner-Webb on Alumni Night on Friday, October 17 at 6:00 pm on ESPN+. The following day, PC will take on Winthrop at home at 6:00 pm on ESPN+.
