CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team finished the weekend against Winthrop at home on Saturday night, falling to the Eagles in three sets 20-25, 21-25, 17-25.

PC stayed close with Winthrop in each set but was unable to extend the match, dropping to 1-6 in conference play. The Blue Hose picked up their first conference win of the season on Friday night against Gardner-Webb.

Julia Yurkovich paced the Blue Hose offensively,  recording 10 kills. Anisa Dorlouis led PC in assists and digs, coming away with 24 and 11 respectively. Elyse Hutchinson led the Blue Hose defensively, logging four blocks.

SET ONE – WINTHROP 25, PC 20

- Winthrop and Presbyterian exchanged leads from one another to open the match. The Eagles were able to jump out to a 14-11 lead over the Blue Hose halfway through the set to force a PC timeout.

- Out of the timeout, PC quickly cut the deficit to one after a kill from Julia Yurkovich. Winthrop responded right after with three straight points to take a 17-13 lead over the Blue Hose. PC responded again with a three-point run of its own to cut the Winthrop lead back to one, forcing an Eagle timeout.

- Presbyterian stayed close to Winthrop after the timeout, but the Eagles grabbed control, building a 22-18 lead. PC staged one last rally before Winthrop closed out the set, taking the opening frame 25-20.

SET TWO – WINTHROP 25, PC 21

- The Eagles started strong in the second frame, winning five of the first six points in the set. A 5-0 run to follow highlighted by multiple service aces from Brittney Daphnis helped the Blue Hose respond to take the lead themselves.

- After the big run from PC, the teams went back-and-forth. With the score tied at 14, Winthrop won four out of five points to take an 18-15 lead over the Blue Hose. PC cut into the deficit, but a service error from the Blue Hose helped the Eagles maintain a 20-17 advantage.

- Presbyterian cut the Winthrop lead to 21-19 behind kills from Yurkovich and Daphnis. However, Winthrop proceeded to win four of the final six points of the set, claiming the second frame 25-21 to go ahead 2-0 in the match.

SET THREE – WINTHROP 25, PC 17

- For the second straight set, the Eagles started fast, taking four of the first five points of the set. PC came back to cut the deficit to one on a service ace from Sophia Del Valle, but Winthrop responded to keep its advantage.

- The Blue Hose trailed 9-5 to the Eagles before embarking on a 4-0 run to force a Winthrop timeout. After the timeout, Winthrop took back the lead, but three straight points from PC lifted the Blue Hose back in front up 16-15.
