Presbyterian Ends Season with Loss to Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Although the Presbyterian College women's soccer team started off the 2025 finale on a positive note with an early 1-0 edge after 14 minutes, the Blue Hose would end up taking a two-point defeat at Charleston Southern on Wednesday afternoon (3-1).

PC finishes the campaign with a record of 3-10-3. This was their first trip to CSU since 2021, playing the Bucs exclusively in Clinton up until Wednesday (last season's match in this series was canceled due to Hurricane Helene).

Nine special Blue Hose seniors have now concluded their college careers, including Sloan Spees who scored her 18th all-time goal in the opening period.

FINAL SCORE: Charleston Southern, 3 – Presbyterian, 1

RECORDS: Presbyterian (3-10-3…0-6-2) – Charleston Southern (6-7-4…3-4-1)

LOCATION: CSU Soccer Field (Charleston, S.C.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Fellow senior (and team-leader in points) Lindsey Malyszek launched a high ball past the midfield stripe to put Spees in position for the game's first goal.

- For the second time in a period of five days, Spees hit the back of the net before intermission. With 18 scores, she is at least two better than all prior Blue Hose in the Division I era (2007 onward).

- PC was hit by some major bad luck in the 35th minute, allowing the Bucs to tie it up at one apiece. A deflected shot from netminder Febe Dombrecht would ricochet right back into the shooter's head, where the ball then bounced aimlessly into the target.

- Charleston Southern went ahead for good at 74:16 in another pinball effect that swayed against PC. Dombrecht punched out a potential score, only for possession to stay with CSU where they connected on a second try moments later.

- The home side finalized the win with their third goal in the 78th minute, beating the Blue Hose despite a 16-12 disadvantage in overall shots.

- After sustaining an injury in Friday's draw against Winthrop, sophomore defenseman Cassidy Oldham was absent in Charleston. That stopped a streak of 30 consecutive starts for a player who nabbed a Big South All-Freshman spot last year.

- Senior Ella Williams has completed a terrific PC career where she never missed a single chance to play over four full seasons (67 total matches). She surpassed 5,000 career minutes in the finale.
