ELON, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (1-2) dropped a road contest at Elon 93-48 on Monday morning (Nov. 10) at the Schar Center.
Allie Sykes led the Blue Hose offensively, scoring 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting. She also made three three-pointers for the Blue Hose, finishing 3-of-7. On the season, she is shooting 50 percent from three (8-of-16).
Amani Williams added nine points for the Blue Hose, while Ja'Cia Cunningham pitched in eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Morgan Boyd got PC on the board early with a layup to help give the Blue Hose a 3-2 lead in the opening minutes. However, the rest of the quarter was all Phoenix. Elon quickly took the lead and opened up a 12-5 lead halfway through the quarter. Ja'Cia Cunningham hit a three to cut the PC deficit to 16-8 with three minutes left in the opening period. The Phoenix controlled the rest of the quarter, leading by as many as 19. Cunningham drilled another three in the closing seconds, but the Blue Hose still trailed 29-13 through one.
Second Quarter
Allie Sykes got hot to start the second quarter, making a pair of free throws and a three to cut the PC deficit to 31-20 two minutes into the period. However, the Phoenix followed with another big run to re-establish a large lead over PC. Elon ended the quarter on a 12-2 run over the remaining eight minutes of the quarter. At the half, Elon took a commanding 43-22 lead. Through 20 minutes, Cunningham led PC with 8 points on two made threes.
Third Quarter
Daniella Velez made a three to open the scoring for PC in the second half off an assist by Shelby Fiddler. Fiddler followed with a three of her own minutes later, but Elon still held a big lead. Sykes drilled her second three of the game in the final seconds of the period before the Phoenix finished the quarter with a layup to take a 65-31 lead.
Fourth Quarter
Amani Williams scored her first points of the game to start the fourth for Presbyterian. Later in the quarter, Sykes made her third three of the game to finish the morning 3-of-7 from three. Williams added three more baskets late in the quarter to finish the period with 9 points. In the end, Elon closed out the game with a 93-48 win.
