BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK - Chiakwelu was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week this week (November 17). Chiakwelu is the 13th player in the program's history to earn the Big South Freshman of the Week award. Chiakwelu made three big blocks while scoring four crucial points in Presbyterian's road win at Georgia State (November 10). He recorded his first career double-figure scoring game with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field at South Carolina (November 12).
REGULAR SEASON TOURNAMENTS - For the fifth straight season, Presbyterian is playing in a tournament in the month of November with the Empire Classic in California. The Blue Hose played Sacramento State on Sunday. PC finishes Empire Classic play at California and UCLA. The Empire Classic will be the 14th regular-season tournament that PC has played in since moving to Division I in 2007-08. Last season, the Blue Hose won the Axe'Em Classic title at Stephen F. Austin with wins over Stephen F. Austin, Youngstown State, and Monmouth. In the 2021-22 season, the Blue Hose claimed the University of New Orleans Classic title with wins over New Orleans, VMI, and Central Arkansas. In the 2023-24 season, the Blue Hose won two games with victories over North Florida and Northwestern State in the First Coast Classic at North Florida.
NEARLY RECORD BREAKING REBOUNDS TOTALS – Redshirt junior forward
Jaylen Peterson grabbed 17 rebounds in the win over Bluefield (November 5). His 17 rebounds are tied for the fourth highest single game rebounds total in Presbyterian's DI era. The DI era record for rebounds in a game is 18.
DOUBLE DIGIT BOARDS – Redshirt senior forward
Jonah Pierce has grabbed double-figure rebounds in three of Presbyterian's first six games. He corralled 13 rebounds against Navy (November 3) and ETSU (November 8). He recorded 14 rebounds at Sacramento State (November 16).
PC COACH QUINTON FERRELL - Quinton Ferrell is in his seventh season as the head coach of his alma mater, Presbyterian College. Ferrell, a former Blue Hose team captain and a 2007 PC graduate, is one of 51 coaches in the NCAA Division I ranks who are coaching their alma mater.
PRESBYTERIAN-CALIFORNIA SERIES – Tuesday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Presbyterian and California.
CALIFORNIA – Former NBA player Mark Madsen is in his third season as the Cal head coach. This season, California has wins over CSU Bakersfield, Wright State, and Cal State Fullerton. Junior guard Dai Dai Ames leads Cal in scoring at 22.5 points per game. All five projected starters for Cal average double-figure points.
