SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose men's tennis double team of
David Mamalat and
Matija Samardzic, after winning the Big South Doubles Championships a couple of weeks ago, won two matches before falling in the quarterfinals of the ITA Conference Masters Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, November 6-7.
In the round of 32 on Thursday, November 6, Mamalat and Samardzic defeated Fairfield's Alex Aguiar and Diego Alcala, 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the round of 16. In the round of 16, Mamalat and Samardzic beat the third-seeded DePaul doubles tandem of Alejandro Gandini and Thomas Giles, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday, November 7. In the quarterfinals, Mamalat and Samardzic saw their ITA Tournament run end with a 6-1, 7-5 setback to Bucknell's Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald later in the evening on November 7.
PERFORMANCES THIS FALL
The doubles team of Mamalat and Samardzic captured the Big South Doubles Title on October 26. In the first tournament of the fall at the Mercer Gridiron Classic (October 3-5), they won three matches to reach a flight championship match. On the weekend of October 16-18, the doubles duo won two matches, including defeating the region's ninth-ranked doubles team from the University of South Carolina at the ITA Carolina Regionals.
