Presbyterian Drops Road Contest at ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (6-7) lost to the East Carolina Pirates (5-7), 74-53, on the road on Wednesday evening.

Jaylen Peterson led the Blue Hose with 16 points and eight rebounds.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – East Carolina scored the game's first seven points. Peterson put the Blue Hose on the board with a driving layup several minutes into the game. East Carolina would push their lead into double digits. With ECU leading 23-11 with seven minutes on the clock, the Blue Hose scored six straight points behind three-point plays from Peterson and Triston Wilson, cutting the Pirates' lead to 23-17 with 6:11 on the clock. However, that would be as close as the Blue Hose would get the rest of the half as East Carolina held a 38-23 halftime lead.  

SECOND HALF – Behind the scoring of Wilson, Carl Parrish, and Khalon Hudson, the Blue Hose scored the first eight points of the half, cutting ECU's lead to 38-31 with 17:11 on the clock.  After a three-point play by Hudson, the Blue Hose cut East Carolina's lead to 42-36 with 14:49 on the clock. Then, Wilson, with a steal and dunk, got the Blue Hose to within four points, 42-38, at the 13:36 mark. However, East Carolina scored six straight points, pushing their lead back to double-figures. Peterson with a dunk cut ECU's lead to 48-40. Chidi Chiakwelu's stick back layup got the Blue Hose within seven points, 55-48, with 7:35 on the clock, but that would be as close as the Blue Hose would get the rest of the game.

  • Peterson scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half. Peterson picked up his fourth double-figure scoring game of the season and the eighth of his career.
  • Presbyterian scored 38 points in the paint.
