Jonah Pierce and redshirt freshman
Chidi Chiakwelu posted double-doubles, but the Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-6) lost to the Wofford Terriers (6-3), 63-56, on the road on Wednesday evening.
Pierce scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Chiakwelu scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked three shots.
Carl Parrish scored 11 points while connecting on three three-point field goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Parrish knocked down Presbyterian's first shot of the game with a three from the wing. The lead exchanged hands a few times over the first eight minutes. With Wofford leading 11-9, a three-pointer from
Triston Wilson, two free throws from Chiakwelu, and a jumper in the lane by Wilson gave the Blue Hose a 16-11 lead after a 7-0 scoring run. Wofford scored 20 of the final 26 points of the half, taking a 31-22 halftime lead.
SECOND HALF – Behind early baskets from
Iverson King and Pierce, the Blue Hose cut Wofford's lead to 32-26, two minutes into the half. Then, Wofford scored 12 of the next 18 points, pushing their lead to 44-32, with 12:56 on the clock. Over the next three minutes, Presbyterian scored ten straight points, cutting Wofford's lead to 44-42 after a made free throw from Pierce.
Amare Anderson and Chiakwelu also scored during that stretch. Wofford scored five straight points, ending the PC scoring run. With 1:11 on the clock, Parrish connected on a three from the wing, getting the Blue Hose to within one point, 55-54. Wofford converted on an old-fashioned three-point play, putting the Terriers in front by four points. Presbyterian was not able to regain the lead the rest of the way.
