Presbyterian comes into Wednesday evening having dropped five straight. The Blue Hose fell last Wednesday (Dec. 3) to Furman on the road 74-56.
The Paladins forced 26 Blue Hose turnovers for the game, also holding Presbyterian to just 39 percent shooting from the field. Furman had an advantage from the charity stripe as well, making 20-of-31 free throws for the game. Aminata Tal led the Blue Hose offensively, scoring 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Ore Ogunwolere and Morgan Boyd also scored in double figures for the Blue Hose, both scoring 12 respectively.
The Blue Hose controlled the glass for the game, outrebounding the Paladins 40-33. Aretha Linger led PC with 7 rebounds.
BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBERS
Ja'Cia Cunningham leads the Blue Hose offensively, averaging 12 points per game coming off the bench. She sits in seventh overall in the Big South in scoring. Aminata Tal also averages in double figures for the Blue Hose, scoring 11 points per game on 43.4 percent shooting from the field. She ranks seventh in the league in field goal percentage and 11th in scoring. Ore Ogunwolere leads the team in both assists and steals on the season, sitting in the top 10 of the conference in both statistical categories. She also leads the team in average minutes per game, playing 26 minutes a night for Presbyterian. Finally, Allie Sykes paces the team from beyond the arc and from the charity stripe, making 37.8 percent of her threes and 92.3 percent of her free throws.
Morgan Boyd is the only player to start all 10 games this year for the Blue Hose. She leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.1 points per game. Boyd scored a career-high 12 points in PC's last outing at Furman, reaching double figures for the first time in her career. She also leads the team in blocked shots on the season with five. Aretha Linger is second on the team on the glass, averaging five rebounds per game.
As a team, the Blue Hose rank second in the conference in offensive rebounding, averaging 15.4 per game. PC also is third in the league in steals, averaging 10.4 per game.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech enters Wednesday's contest with a 7-3 record overall this season. The Hokies opened ACC play at home with a 70-54 loss to Duke on Sunday. Carleigh Wenzel leads Virginia Tech in scoring, averaging 15 points per game. Carys Baker and Mel Daley also average in double figures for the Hokies. Baker scored 23 in VT's 68-64 win over Florida last Thursday. Megan Duffy is in her second season as the head coach of the Hokies.
As a team, Virginia Tech ranks near the top of the ACC in blocked shots and offensive rebounding, ranking fifth in the conference in both categories. The Hokies also rank fourth in the ACC in turnover margin at +6.0.
PRESBYTERIAN – VIRGINIA TECH ALL-TIME SERIES
The Hokies have won all five of the previous meetings between the two teams. The last time the two faced off was Nov. 16, 2016. Virginia Tech took that matchup 67-36.
BLUE HOSE ROSTER
Joining the Blue Hose this season are nine newcomers (four transfers and five freshmen). The transfers for Coach Sardin are Ore Ogunwolere, Ja'Cia Cunningham, Krystal Haddock, and Laetitia Kamdoum.
Freshmen Aretha Linger, Yolanda Floyd, Allie Sykes, Samantha Mullock, and Amani Williams also join the Blue Hose. This is the most freshmen the Blue Hose have had on the roster since the 2022-23 season (also five).
The Blue Hose also return four from last year's roster. Seniors Shelby Fiddler and Aminata Tal lead the returners for PC. Sophomores Morgan Boyd and Daniella Velez also are back for the Blue Hose this season.
THE 2025-26 NON-CONFERENCE SLATE
Presbyterian's non-conference lineup includes five home contests and six road games. PC's remaining non-conference schedule includes home games against Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 19, and Jacksonville State on Dec. 21.
BIG SOUTH SCHEDULE
Conference play begins December 31 for the Blue Hose, with PC set to take on each of its eight Big South opponents twice in a balanced home-and-away schedule.
At Templeton, PC will face Radford on Dec. 31, High Point on Jan. 7, UNC Asheville on Jan. 17, Charleston Southern on Jan. 24, USC Upstate on Feb. 4, Gardner-Webb on Feb. 14, Winthrop on Feb. 18, and Longwood on Feb. 28.
On the road, the Blue Hose will take on Longwood on Jan. 3, USC Upstate on Jan. 14, Gardner-Webb on Jan. 21, Winthrop on Jan. 28, High Point on Jan. 31, Charleston Southern on Feb. 7, UNC Asheville on Feb. 21, and Radford on Feb. 25.
