AKRON, Ohio – Junior
Alyssa Perez produced her second multi-goal performance in as many games on Saturday afternoon, although the Presbyterian College lacrosse team was unable to slow a fast-moving Akron opponent in what amounted to a 16-4 setback.
After a relatively quiet opening quarter against an opponent who had secured 26 goals in their prior two victories, Akron managed four scores in the final 1:40 of that period and never trailed again.
Head coach
Eric Clakeley's crew will aim to get back on the right track in three days, beginning the program's longest homestand in 18 years by hosting their next six opponents. They'll battle Eastern Michigan on February 25, slated for a 6:00 PM draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presby's second straight outing that needed to be played indoors due to a plethora of snow in the area, they seized their first goal of the afternoon from the hands of
Willow Hammond, her 86
th career goal with 3:47 left in the first as she inches closer up the school's all-time leaderboard.
- Following that moment, however, Akron scored 12 of the game's next 13 goals to find themselves ahead by a comfortable margin.
- The Zips outscored PC 6-1 over the second and third stanzas, leaving the Blue Hose with an 11-2 deficit with 15 minutes on the clock.
- Scoring nine goals in 2024 after transferring in from Fairleigh Dickinson, Perez has now earned five two-goal efforts in her Presbyterian career. Elsewhere, freshman
Emily Currie has lined up a 4
th-quarter score twice in the last 72 hours.
-
Kayleigh Aitken was given the starting nod at goalkeeper for the second game in a row, logging six saves and a team-best six ground balls during a 45-minute shift.
- The trio of
Avery West/
Hannah Savage/
Kenzie Partsch combined for nine ground ball pickups as the team grabbed 21 altogether, while second-year defender
Ella Bobbitt was responsible for two of the team's seven caused turnovers.
UP NEXT
- The first of ten occasions where coach Clakeley's gang will compete at Bailey Memorial Stadium this year, the Blue Hose will face Eastern Michigan on Tuesday in what will be their third matchup versus a school from the MAC.
- EMU has yet to taste victory in the early stages of the campaign, facing stout adversaries San Diego State and 11
th-ranked Notre Dame.
- It will be the second all-time meeting between PC and a school from the state of Michigan (the only other instance was against the CMU Chippewas in 2016).
