CLINTON, S.C. – Assembling 12 hits and five doubles in the last meeting of the Pinnacle Blue Hose Invitational, the Presbyterian College softball team outgunned Morehead State for the second time in 48 hours. PC finished a sweep of the Eagles on Sunday by a final count of 9-6.
Three different players served up a multi-hit platter – including senior
Kelby Goodrum, who cracked three of her five weekend hits versus MSU – as both clubs found a combined 15 runs in the first three innings.
Head coach
David Williams' lineup answered a first-frame three-spot from Morehead by tying things up in the bottom of that same inning. They gained enough separation to beat the Eagles again by producing five scores in the bottom of the 3
rd.
The Scotsmen are halfway through their season-starting 10-game homestand, returning to the field next Friday for another five-game invitational. They'll meet Rhode Island and ETSU twice each, along with a separate game versus Maine mixed in between.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC displayed great poise after the Eagles dealt a three-run deficit in the opening act. Goodrum,
Kasey Wolfe, and
Mallory Fletcher allowed the Blue Hose to tie things up at three apiece with a single and two extra-base swings.
- An RBI groundout from lead-off freshman shortstop
Baxleigh Arnette enabled Presbyterian to take their first lead at 4-3 in the 2
nd stanza, although Morehead clapped back again with three more runs in the top of the 3
rd.
- Now facing a 6-4 hole, the Blue Hose delivered a blow to MSU that their opponent wouldn't recover from at the midway point of Sunday's clash.
- In her first plate action of the season (having played in the flex at leftfield thus far in 2025),
Morgan Farthing smashed a bases-clearing double in the 3
rd that put her squad ahead for the rest of the day.
- Arnette and Goodrum gave PC some insurance that proved vital down the stretch, combining for four RBI as the top-two batters in Presby's order.
- Coach Williams' gang secured nine runs without needing to leave the park as they swept their OVC adversary, holding Morehead scoreless over the last four innings.
- Grabbing the save in her college debut back on Friday, rookie pitcher
Grace Kelley received her first PC victory as she and Wolfe each faced 17 batters.
- Fletcher ended the weekend as the holder of the team's best BA, hitting .462 overall (six-for-thirteen) along with an .846 slugging percentage.
