CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team atoned for an unlucky start to the Catamount Classic at Western Carolina, stomping North Carolina A&T with a 10-2 mercy-rule victory in the first half of Saturday's two-parter before dropping the second affair with the hosts (8-2).
Head coach
David Williams' lineup continued their sizzling offense in the run-rule W over the Bulldogs, combining for 27 runs in their first three games of the tournament.
The Blue Hose – who entered the weekend with four homers in 12 games – have left the yard nine times in the last 48 hours, including
Blair Darby's fifth bomb of the year in the A&T blowout.
Sophomore star
Kasey Wolfe has secured a first-inning home run in two of the four outings this weekend, going four-of-six at the plate along with four RBI in Saturday's DH.
PC is primed for one more neutral-site meeting until they return home, battling Rhode Island for the second occasion on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
NOTABLES
- Wolfe, Darby, and senior outfielder
Mallory Fletcher added up for five hits in Presby's revenge game with N.C. A&T (who they were defeated by yesterday in a 12-11 shootout), scoring 10 straight runs after giving up a pair in the first frame.
- Fletcher's team-high .776 slugging percentage got another boost in the Bulldog beatdown, logging her 10
th extra-base swing of the still-young season and batting in a trio of runs.
- The 3
rd inning could possibly be the strongest sequence that Presbyterian has undergone this semester, launching three home runs in a period of four at-bats. Darby,
Kendall Owens, and
Maddi Wood were the culprits as PC rattled their former Big South mates.
- Junior
Peyton Duncan landed her fourth personal win of the year as PC grabbed their eighth win altogether, tossing a complete game against A&T and allowing only three hits and throwing 110 pitches.
GAME ONE – PC def. NORTH CAROLINA A&T, 10-2 (5 Innings)
- Falling behind early by a deuce, it was Fletcher's batting efficiency that enabled the Blue Hose to tie things up in the 3
rd and eventually open the floodgates.
- The Bulldogs couldn't recover from PC's home run trifecta in that same stanza, ending that inning with a 7-2 advantage on the scoreboard but not stopping there.
- Saturday was Presbyterian's largest margin of victory in 2025 and a dose of payback simultaneously, out-hitting A&T by seven and improving to 6-1 in the all-time series.
GAME TWO – WESTERN CAROLINA def. PC, 8-2
- Although Wolfe put PC on top in the beginning of the nightcap with the team's ninth homer of in the last two days, the Catamounts were able to weather the storm and end the contest on a 5-0 spurt.
- Both RBI and nearly 70 percent of the Blue Hose's hits came from the hands of Wolfe, coming up short in the 28
th all-time meeting between the two schools.
