JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (6-24, 4-12) saw its season come to a close on Wednesday evening, falling to UNC Asheville (4-26, 1-15) in the first round of the Big South Tournament.
Kishyah Anderson led in scoring with a dominant 31-point performance, while
Paige Kindseth recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Anderson wasted no time making an impact, grabbing the opening tip and driving straight to the basket for the first points of the game. Asheville responded with five straight, but three-pointers from
Shelby Fiddler and Anderson evened the score at 10-10 by the media timeout. The teams continued to trade baskets, with Kindseth and
Laney Scoggins adding to PC's tally. However, the Bulldogs held a slim 19-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The back-and-forth battle continued in the second, as
Sonia Sato and
Aminata Tal chipped in baskets for the Blue Hose. A triple from Fiddler knotted the score at 26 points apiece. Kindseth then converted a three-point play, briefly giving Presby the lead. Despite four more points from Anderson, Asheville answered with a 9-4 run, forcing a PC timeout while trailing 37-33. The Blue Hose responded before the half, using four points from Tal to regain a 40-37 advantage at the break.
Third Quarter
The tight contest carried into the second half, with Anderson, Kindseth, and Tal continuing to lead the Blue Hose offense. UNC Asheville capitalized on a strong stretch, scoring eight of the next 10 points to pull ahead 50-48. Anderson answered with four points, helping PC reclaim a 52-50 lead heading into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
Anderson opened the fourth with a six-point surge, highlighted by a tough three-point play, pushing the blue and garnet ahead 58-50. Asheville responded with a three-point play of its own, but Anderson countered with a pull-up jumper. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on, scoring four straight to trim PC's lead to 61-57.
With momentum shifting, Asheville put together another 4-0 run, tying the game at 61. Anderson, surpassing the 30-point mark, knocked down a turnaround jumper to momentarily regain the lead, but the Bulldogs quickly answered to level the score at 63-all. In the final 30 seconds, Asheville connected on a go-ahead jumper to take a two-point edge. Some late free throws from the Bulldogs sealed the game 69-63.
