Presbyterian Battles Hard on Senior Day, Comes up Short Against Terriers

CLINTON, S.C. – In the final match of seven careers on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium, the Presbyterian College lacrosse team was unable to overcome a tepid start versus Big South rival Wofford in a 15-9 consequence.

The last appearance of Kenzie Partsch, Mickey Paredes, Madeline Hart, Melissa Mucollari, Willow Hammond, Brooke Chandler, and Naomi Lauderbaugh (who were all recognized in a pregame ceremony), PC matched Wofford in the final 30 minutes but fell behind by six at halftime which ended up being the biggest factor.

Presbyterian is now mathematically eliminated from contention into the Big South Tournament next week, completing their campaign with a record of 5-12 and 2-6 against league opponents.

NOTABLES

- Seven days after a heart-stopping victory at Longwood where Emma Claire Mills scored the game-winning goal with 1.8 seconds on the clock, PC succumbed to a 5-1 Terrier run that opened up the match and found themselves playing catch-up from then on.

- Three underclassmen combined for six scores in the season finale: Madeleine Lowrance, Kaylie Rittmueller, and Hannah Savage who all hit the back of the net twice.

- Bria Foley and Carley Irvin were a fierce combination for the visitors as they avenged a four-point loss to Presby the last time they came to Clinton two years ago, syncing up for 13 total points (eight goals and five assists).

- Head coach Eric Clakeley's club assembled five goals in the 3rd period – the fourth time that they reached that number in conference play over a 15-minute window – as they'd tie the Terriers in total shots at 23 apiece.

- Both teams also tied in draw controls (13), and were similar in turnovers too (26 for PC compared to Wofford's 22). It was the first-half troubles on the scoreboard that doomed the Blue Hose as Wofford found a lead that reached its apex at nine points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Partsch was responsible for PC's lone goal in the 1st quarter, occurring nearly nine minutes into proceedings. Savage followed up with an early 2nd-period connection, although Presby wouldn't find any other first-half goals over the last 10 minutes until the break.

- Wofford went on their longest uninterrupted scoring streak of the day after intermission with four consecutive goals that pushed the deficit to 12-3. The Blue Hose were able to outscore the Terriers over the final 21 minutes, 6-3.

- Hammond would punch in her final goal in a PC uniform with 6:51 left, her 116th career score which officially ranks 3rd all-time in the program's near two-decade history.

- After falling behind by nine, coach Clakeley's unit managed to get as close as six on four different occasions only to run out of time.

- Junior defenseman Avery West served up perhaps her greatest-ever showing from a statistical perspective, scooping up eight ground balls and turning over the Terriers seven times.

- Lauderbaugh and Kayleigh Aitken added for six saves against a Wofford attack that piled up 21 on-target shots, while Mills led the way in draws by winning four of them.
