Presbyterian Comes Up Short in Sunday Setback with Wofford

CLINTON, S.C. – All four goals from both teams were calculated in the final 45 minutes of the Presbyterian College women's soccer squad's weekend duel with Wofford, as PC was unable to come away victorious against the Terriers in a 3-1 margin.

Senior Lindsey Malyszek found her third goal of the season with just over 20 minutes on the clock to even the odds at one point apiece, although things quickly went south as Wofford countered with a score of their own just 86 seconds later.

It took a total of 23 minutes for the tally to go from nil-nil to 3-1, moving the Blue Hose to a record of 2-2-1 over the first two-and-a-half weeks of the semester.

PC will look to regroup after two losses to the Terriers and Furman in succession, completing their four-match homestand on Thursday when taking on Alabama A&M. The action in Martin Stadium will begin at seven o'clock.

FINAL SCORE – Wofford, 3 – Presbyterian, 1
RECORDS – Presbyterian (2-2-1) – Wofford (2-4)
LOCATION – Martin Stadium (Clinton, S.C.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Wofford entered Sunday's proceedings with their first win of the year recently achieved over Gardner-Webb, shelving a four-game losing streak in doing so. Each of the Terriers' losses came by a 1-0 tally, and it seemed like another defensive conflict was in store after the first period.

- However, the next stanza was in fact a direct opposite. Wofford stopped the scoreless tie at 55:50, but Malyszek punched back 14 minutes later to send the score back even again.

- Unfortunately for the Scotsmen, their Spartanburg rivals were quick on the draw to deliver the counterstrike. They'd connect at 70:27 to jump back ahead, then one more time for some insurance with 12 minutes remaining.

- Freshman goalie Febe Dombrecht managed seven saves while playing the full 90, although her accompanying defense was forced to endure 18 shots (10 on-target) as Wofford eventually broke through.

- There have been a total of nine goals scored between these two clubs in their last two meetings, as Presbyterian bettered the Terriers last August via a 3-2 discrepancy.

UP NEXT

- PC will honor nine seniors at the conclusion of Thursday's non-conference session with Alabama A&M, recognizing Malysek, Hannah Austin, Abby Ferris, Lina Müller, Lauren Clark, Ella Williams, Isabel Lasota, Sloan Spees, and Isabel Manders-Lamcken in a postgame ceremony.

- The Bulldogs approached Sunday with a 1-4 record before going head-to-head with Jacksonville State, their lone W thus far occurring over Howard in a 1-0 differential where the one goal took place 17 minutes in.
