FARMVILLE, Va. –
Jaylen Peterson led three Presbyterian Blue Hose double-figure scorers with 21 points, but the Blue Hose (8-10, BSC: 1-2) rally comes up short in a 77-70 loss at the Longwood Lancers (10-9, BSC: 2-2) on Saturday afternoon.
Peterson led all scorers with 21 points.
Iverson King and
Josh Pickett chipped in with 12 points apiece.
Jonah Pierce nearly recorded another double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.
For the game, the Blue Hose shot 52 percent from the field, including 56 percent in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Carl Parrish scored PC's first five points with a layup and a three from the wing. With 15:49 on the clock,
Josh Pickett connected on a three from the top of the key, giving the Blue Hose an 8-7 lead. Longwood scored five straight points to regain the first-half lead for good. Longwood would push its lead to 15 points, 32-17, with 4:14 left in the half. The Blue Hose outscored Longwood, 11-8, over the final four minutes, cutting the Lancers' halftime lead to 40-28.
SECOND HALF – Presbyterian scored eight of the first 13 points of the half, cutting Longwood's lead to 45-36 after a free throw from Peterson with 15:17 on the clock. Longwood pushed its lead back into double digits on its next possession. With 4:52 on the clock, Longwood held a 72-56 lead. Presbyterian went on an 8-0 run beginning with a three from Pickett, and a layup from Pierce ended the scoring run. With one minute on the clock, Longwood held a 75-66 lead. Baskets in the paint from Peterson and Pierce got the Blue Hose within 5 points, 75-70, with 19 ticks on the clock. The Blue Hose were not able to get any closer as Longwood closed out the scoring with two free throws.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Peterson's 21 points marked his second 20-point scoring game of the season and the seventh double-figure scoring game. Peterson shot 7-for-9 from the field.
- King tallied his third double-figure scoring game of the season and the 11th of his career with his 12 points. King connected on a career-high four three-point field goals.
- Pickett collected his fourth double-figure scoring game of the season with his 12 points. Pickett also dished out six assists in the game.
- With his 10 rebounds, Pierce has tallied nine double-digit rebound games this season.
