Presbyterian Routs Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Behind four double-figure scorers, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (10-10, Big South: 3-2) cruised past the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (2-18, Big South: 0-5), 92-55, on the road on Saturday afternoon. Presbyterian's 37-point margin of victory is the largest margin of victory over a Big South opponent on the road in school history.

Jonah Pierce recorded another double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Triston Wilson added 19 points, six assists, and four steals to the Blue Hose's efforts.  Jaylen Peterson scored 19 points. Khalon Hudson scored 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field off the bench to round out Presbyterian's double-digit scorers.

The Blue Hose finished the game with a dominant 56-22 advantage in points in the paint. Presbyterian shot 58 percent (35-for-60) from the field in the win. Presbyterian's defense forced 17 Gardner-Webb turnovers, leading to 21 points off turnovers.


HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF – Wilson got the Blue Hose going with a three from the wing 23 seconds into the game. The Blue Hose, behind the scoring of Pierce and Wilson, scored 11 of the game's first 12 points. After a layup from Chidi Chiakwelu, the Blue Hose had a 21-3 lead with 10 minutes left in the half. Garner-Webb scored six straight points, cutting PC's lead to 12, 21-9. Then, PC went on a 10-0 run, taking a 31-9 lead with 4:59 on the clock after a jumper from Hudson. With seven seconds left in the half, Hudson knocked down a jumper from the wing, giving the Blue Hose a 40-21 halftime lead.

SECOND HALF – The Blue Hose scored six of the first eight points of the half, pushing their lead to 46-23 after two free throws from Wilson with 17:43 on the clock. Presbyterian maintained a lead in the twenties until Peterson made two free throws with 3:41 on the clock, giving the Blue Hose an 83-52 lead. Presbyterian's final four points came from the two freshman guards, with two free throws from JD Bowden and a layup by Amare Anderson, which gave Presbyterian their largest lead, 92-53. Gardner-Webb scored with 56 seconds on the clock, making Presbyterian's final margin of victory, 92-55.


INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Hudson's 17 points marked the Blue Hose's eighth double-figure scoring game off the bench this season. Hudson tallied his third double-figure scoring game of the season.
  • Pierce recorded his 10th double-double of the season and his sixth double-double in the last seven games with his 20 points and 13 rebounds.  
  • Peterson picked up his ninth double-figure scoring game of the season with his 18 points.
  • Wilson collected his seventh double-figure scoring game of the season with his 19 points.
  • Presbyterian's 56 points in the paint were the most points the Blue Hose have scored in the paint since scoring 64 points in the win over Virginia Lynchburg, December 18, 2024.
