The Presbyterian Blue Hose begin their dual match season against the Emmanuel Lions (3-0) at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Tuesday, January 20, at 2 p.m.
Presbyterian coach
Juan Pablo Boada is in his second season at the helm of the program. Presbyterian returns three letterwinners: senior
David Mamalat and sophomores
Daksh Prasad and
Eduardo Valentin. Joining those three returners are newcomers junior
Matija Samardzic, sophomore
Gabriel Godoy, and freshmen
Thomas Anderson,
Victor Mayer, and
Dario Navarro. This fall, Mamalat and Samardzic captured the doubles title at the Big South Individual Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Conference Masters Championship. Every Blue Hose posted singles and doubles wins during the fall's tournament season.
HOME OPENING MATCH
Tuesday's match against Emmanuel marks Presbyterian's first home match of the season. The Blue Hose have won their home opening match in eight of the last nine seasons.
BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Presbyterian was picked to finish third in the preseason Big South coaches poll. Longwood was picked to win the Big South title in the preseason poll.
In Presbyterian's men's tennis program's history, the Blue Hose have captured three Big South regular-season titles (2014, 2017, and 2023) and three Big South Tournament titles (2017, 2021, and 2023).
PRESBYTERIAN-EMMANUEL SERIES
The Blue Hose leads the series, 4-0, which includes a 7-0 win at home in their last meeting on February 22, 2025. In that win, Presbyterian captured the doubles point with wins at number three and two doubles. The Blue Hose swept the singles matches, with Mamalat and Prasad posting singles wins.
SCOUTING EMMANUEL
The Lions have wins over North Greenville, Anderson, and Truett McConnell this season. Senior James Girdler and freshman Shumpei Kamiyama lead the team with 3-0 singles records. The doubles teams of Girdler and Kamiyama and seniors Marcos Llorens and junior Murilo Martins have each won two doubles matches this season.
