Blue Hose Place Four in Double Figures in Home Loss to Winthrop

CLINTON, S.C. – Four Presbyterian players scored in double-figures, but the Blue Hose (11-11, Big South: 4-3) lost to the Winthrop Eagles (15-8, Big South: 7-1), 82-72, at the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.

Carl Parrish paced the Blue Hose with 18 points. Jonah Pierce collected another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Triston Wilson scored 12 points. Josh Pickett rounded out PC's double-figure scorers with 11 points. Khalon Hudson nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

Winthrop's Logan Duncomb led all scorers with 38 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Wilson scored Presbyterian's first two points on a jumper in the lane.  With Winthrop leading 4-2, two straight baskets from Pierce gave the Blue Hose a 6-5 lead three minutes into the game. Winthrop regained the lead with four straight points. A tip-in from Chidi Chiakwelu tied the score at nine with 13:52 on the clock. Winthrop scored four straight points, regaining the first half lead for good. The Eagles pushed their lead to 23-13 with 6:45 on the clock, after a free throw by Jaylen Peterson and a three from Pickett. PC cut Winthrop's lead to 22-17 with six minutes left. Winthrop went on a 12-4 scoring run over the next four minutes, taking a 34-21 lead. Pierce scored on a tip-in layup at the buzzer, cutting Winthrop's lead to 36-28 at the half.


SECOND HALF 
– Presbyterian scored nine of the half's first 12 points, cutting Winthrop's lead to 42-37 after two free throws from Pickett at the 16:19 mark. Winthrop maintained a lead of 4-8 points until Piece made two free throws at 11:03, cutting Winthrop's lead to one, 53-52. Winthrop's Duncomb made one free throw, then Pierce scored inside, tying the score at 54 with 10 minutes on the clock. Winthrop regained the lead after scoring six straight points. Wilson scored inside for the Blue Hose with 6:35 on the clock, getting PC back to within two, 64-62. Winthrop again scored six straight points, pushing their lead to 70-62. After baskets from Peterson and Parrish and two free throws from Wilson, Presbyterian answered with their own 6-0 run, cutting Winthrop's lead to 70-68.  The two teams exchanged free throws, with Winthrop leading 72-70 with 3:20 left on the clock. Winthrop closed out the game on a 10-2 run for the 82-72 win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Pierce's 15 points and 10 rebounds marked his 11th double-double of the season.
  • Parrish's 18 points marked his 15th double-digit scoring game of the season.
  • Pickett collected his second straight and his sixth double-figure scoring game of the season with his 11 points.
  • Wilson's 12 points marked his ninth double-figure scoring game of the season
