CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Visiting the home gym of a Southern Conference opponent for their last tournament of the regular season, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team sent nine athletes to the Saturday Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga.
Ultimately, no PC personnel advanced to the second day of the brackets, with 184-pounder
Reed Douglass making it the furthest in the consolation quarterfinals.
The Blue Hose won six combined matches overall, with Douglass claiming half of that number. He defeated NC State's Rylan Breen with a 21-5 technical, Bellarmine's Jack Ring, and Clarion's Adrian Gacek in a hard-fought 8-5 decision.
Other PC highlights came from 141-pounder
Ryan Luna – who downed Morgan State's Shawn Ryncarz with a 12-0 major decision – and 157-pounder
Niko Valenzuela, who sprinted past American's Gavin Cohen with an 18-2 tech.
Head coach
Mark Cody's unit will search for their first SoCon win of the new year next Thursday, welcoming Appalachian State to the Templeton Center for a 7:00 start.
