CLINTON, S.C. – Junior guard Alyssa Febres of the Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team has been named a recipient of the distinguished Kay Yow Servant Leader award. Febres is among a select group of women's basketball players nationwide, across all levels of collegiate competition, to receive this highly-regarded honor.

Presented annually, the Kay Yow Servant Leader Award is given to select student-athletes who best embody the characteristics of Coach Kay Yow. Coach Yow is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, winning more than 700 career games at Elon and NC State. She coached the U.S. women's national team to a gold medal in the Olympics in 1988 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987.

Kay Yow Servant Leaders are people with a servant's spirit and a commitment to selfless leadership both on and off the court or athletic field. Their first response is to give to others, and they are people who have or will make an impact in the fight against cancer, improving lives and giving hope.

Nominated by their coaches and selected by the Fund, 66 Servant Leaders have been recognized nationwide to date at the DI, DII, DIII, and junior college ranks, each representing what it means to lead through service.

Award winners will wear a Servant Leader patch on their jersey during the season. One student-athlete will claim Servant Leader of the Year, earning a $25,000 grant given in their name to a local healthcare provider.
