ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (7-11, 1-3 Big South) played its third straight road match on Friday night (Oct. 9), suffering a four-set 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19 defeat to UNC Asheville at the Justice Center.
Anisa Dorlouis led the Blue Hose offensively with 24 assists and eight kills. Keira O'Donnell had a productive evening for PC as well, contributing seven kills.
Courtney Williams and Ashley Dienes led Presbyterian defensively at the net, recording three blocks apiece. Celimar Hoyos registered 16 digs, while Dorlouis pitched in 11 to post another double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE – UNC ASHEVILLE 25, PC 20
- Presbyterian stayed right with the Bulldogs to open the evening, tying the frame at six apiece after a kill by Courtney Williams.
- UNC Asheville grabbed control of the set to take the lead, but a service error helped PC remain within two down 12-10. The Bulldogs went ahead by five up 17-12 before PC quickly responded to close the gap back to three.
- A huge block by Ashley Dienes and Anisa Dorlouis cut the Blue Hose deficit to just two down 22-20 late in the set, but the Bulldogs would hang on to claim the opening set by a 25-20 score.
SET TWO – UNC ASHEVILLE 25, PC 14
- UNC Asheville jumped on the Blue Hose in the second set, quickly building a 7-2 lead.
- Presbyterian responded with a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to just two down 12-10.
- However, the Bulldogs answered with a big run of their own, finishing the set on a 13-4 run to run away with the second set and grab a 2-0 lead in Asheville.
SET THREE – PC 25, UNC ASHEVILLE 20
- Presbyterian got the better of the Bulldogs to begin the fourth, taking an 8-6 lead following kills by Keira O'Donnell and Dorlouis.
- The Blue Hose extended their lead to five in the middle of the set, as a kill by Julia Yurkovich and an attack error put PC ahead 15-10.
- UNC Asheville had the answer, closing the gap to just one late in the frame down 19-18. Two clutch kills by Dorlouis followed to help close out the set for the Blue Hose, claiming the third set by a 25-20 score to cut into the Bulldog lead.
SET FOUR – UNC ASHEVILLE 25, PC 19
- The Blue Hose kept the momentum heading into the fourth, as two kills by Yurkovich helped the Blue Hose grab a 12-9 advantage over the Bulldogs.
- UNC Asheville kept the margin thin, but the Blue Hose were able to stay in front. A kill by Dienes followed by an attack error gave Presbyterian an 18-16 lead late in the set.
- The Bulldogs were able to flip the momentum down the stretch, closing the fourth set on a 9-1 run to finish the match.
NOTABLES
- Anisa Dorlouis recorded her 12th double-double of the year, registering 24 assists and 11 digs. For the second straight match, she finished two kills shy of a triple-double, posting eight.
- Ashley Dienes posted a season-high four kills while logging three blocks as well. This is her second match of the season with at least three blocks.
- Dienes also recorded a season-high three service aces, the first three aces of her collegiate career.
- Keira O'Donnell finished the evening with seven kills. She matched her season-high in digs with six.
- Celimar Hoyos powered the PC defense with 16 digs.
