PC Hits the Road for Two Matches

The Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-0) have a busy weekend with road matches at the No. 14 South Carolina Gamecocks (4-1) and the ETSU Buccaneers (4-3). First, PC travels to Columbia, South Carolina, for a match at nationally-ranked South Carolina on Friday, February 6, at 10 a.m. Then, PC concludes the weekend with a match at ETSU on Sunday, February 8, at 2 p.m.
 
A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
Presbyterian coach Juan Pablo Boada is in his second season at the helm of the program. Presbyterian returns three letterwinners: senior David Mamalat and sophomores Daksh Prasad and Eduardo Valentin. Joining those three returners are newcomers junior Matija Samardzic, sophomore Gabriel Godoy, and freshmen Thomas Anderson, Victor Mayer, and Dario Navarro.  This fall, Mamalat and Samardzic captured the doubles title at the Big South Individual Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Conference Masters Championship. Every Blue Hose posted singles and doubles wins during the fall's tournament season.
 
This spring, Mamalat, Navarro, Prasad, Samardzic, and Valentin are all 2-0 in singles. The doubles duo of Prasad and Valentin has won both of their matches this spring.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Presbyterian improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-0 victory over Queens at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Thursday, January 29. PC captured the doubles point for the second straight match while sweeping the six singles contests.
 
BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Presbyterian was picked to finish third in the preseason Big South coaches poll. Longwood was picked to win the Big South title in the preseason poll.
 
In Presbyterian's men's tennis program's history, the Blue Hose have captured three Big South regular-season titles (2014, 2017, and 2023) and three Big South Tournament titles (2017, 2021, and 2023).
 
SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA
South Carolina has won the six previous matchups between the two teams. South Carolina is currently ranked No. 14 in the latest ITA rankings after beginning the season with wins over North Florida, The Citadel, No. 10 Columbia, and No. 24 Michigan State. Lucas da Silva is ranked 23rd, Sean Daryabiegi is ranked 36th, and Paul Babier Gazeu is ranked 87th in the latest ITA singles rankings. The doubles duo of Daryabiegi and Max Stenzer are 34th, and Gazeu and da Silva are 51st in the latest ITA doubles rankings.
 
SCOUTING ETSU
The Buccaneers have won the last two meetings between the two teams. ETSU enters Sunday's match on a four-match winning streak with victories over Eastern Kentucky, Tusculum, DePaul, and VCU. Oscar Martinez leads ETSU with a perfect 4-0 singles record. The doubles duo of Martinez and Martin Vergara is also undefeated at 4-0.
