JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a tough day at the office for the Presbyterian College softball team to begin the Spring Break Challenge in the Sunshine State, falling twice on Friday to Georgia Southern (8-0) and the host school Jacksonville (3-0).
The Blue Hose are now 11-11 on the campaign after coming up empty against two quality opponents, but their weekend stay is just getting started as they will reset tomorrow for a GSU rematch and a one-off with North Florida.
PC stranded seven runners in the nightcap against Jacksonville and 12 throughout the doubleheader, now with a 4-5 ledger when playing away from home.
GAME ONE: Georgia Southern def. Presbyterian, 8-0 (Five Innings)
- The Eagles (who knocked out Wofford by nine runs in their last appearance) started fast to begin the five-game slate with a pair of runs in the opening frame and a three-spot in the 3
rd.
- Georgia Southern was able to achieve the run-rule with a two-score single in the 5
th, keeping Presby away from home plate over the duration of the game.
-
Avery Robinson pitched 4.2 innings and also had a couple of hits on the offensive end, while sophomore
Grace Kelley recorded the final out for the Scotsmen.
GAME TWO: Jacksonville def. Presbyterian, 3-0
- PC was held without any extra-base swings for the second straight contest, although they were able to out-hit the Dolphins by a slim 6-4 margin when all was said and done.
- JU grinded out a methodical win against senior
Peyton Duncan, who only allowed a solo homer and two RBI-groundouts. She tossed a complete game (the 23
rd of her college career) and struck out four.
- The run support was unable to get going for the Blue Hose in the low-scoring affair, unable to reach base in their last seven at-bats.
