SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team (4-8) battled to the end on Saturday afternoon (March 7) at Wofford. The Terriers came away with a narrow 4-3 victory at the Reeves Tennis Center.
The Blue Hose grabbed the doubles point and picked up singles wins on courts five and six. However, Wofford recorded singles victories on the top four courts, including winning a decisive three-setter on court four to earn the win.
The Terriers logged a doubles victory on the top court match, but the Blue Hose responded with victories on courts two and three to take the doubles point. Grace Katzman and Mary Ellen Longmire picked up a 6-4 win on court two before Ladina Bruhin and Roxy Valdes followed with a tight 7-6 (2) win on court three to give PC a 1-0 lead in Spartanburg.
Wofford took the lead back in singles, recording wins on courts two and three. Longmire cruised to a straight-set win on court six to tie the match for PC at two apiece.
The Terriers took the lead back with a victory on the top court, but the Blue Hose showed their resiliency by responding again. Sofia Rodrigo Hidalgo came away with a three-set win on court five to tie the match at three.
The match came down to court four. Ella Suk took a tight first set before Luciana Parrilli grabbed the second set 7-5 to even the match and force a decider. In the third set, Suk finished off the match for Wofford, winning 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Terriers.
