MACON, Ga. – Starting over two-and-a-half hours later than intended thanks to a Wednesday afternoon storm, the Presbyterian College lacrosse team was upended by four-time defending Big South champion Mercer in a 19-2 decision.
Against an opponent that has now won 34 of their last 36 conference games, PC struck first at the 11:48 stamp of the opening quarter but did not add to their offensive numbers until the final period.
Mercer embarked on a 19-0 scoring spree after the Blue Hose held them scoreless for the first 11 minutes. The loss drops Presbyterian to 3-8 on the year and 0-2 in league affairs.
Presby will put Wednesday's result in the bin and focus on their next Big South obstacle as Radford visits Bailey Memorial Stadium over the weekend. They'll face the Highlanders at 1:00 this Saturday.

RECORDS: Presbyterian (3-8, 0-2) | Mercer (5-6, 2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore
Kate Dominick (the team's leader in total points so far) was the first player from either team to hit the back of the net, getting one past Mercer goalie Mackenzie Ward who went on to make seven saves the rest of the night.
- Unfortunately for PC, the remainder of the contest belonged to the home side as Caroline Glus and Maya Maldonado combined for eight goals and 10 total points.
- Mercer took a 10-1 lead into the halftime break, shutting out the Scotsmen in the 2
nd and 3
rd quarters. They stacked up 41 shots altogether (29 of them landing on-goal).
- Going into this matchup,
Alyssa Perez and
Emily Currie had both accounted for at least one goal in all 10 games this spring. The former kept her streak intact by connecting with less than a minute on the clock.
- Midfielder
Sydney Howard doubled her career-high with four caused turnovers in the loss, one of five PC players that had exactly two ground ball recoveries as well.
- Goalies
Morgan Thompson and
Kayleigh Aitken each had five stoppages against the Big South juggernaut. Mercer posted a 17-5 edge in draw controls.
