Softball Splits with CSU on Senior Day, Wins Third League Series

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team closed out their home schedule by winning a second consecutive Big South Conference series on Saturday afternoon, beating Charleston Southern in the first half of a doubleheader 6-2 and dropping the second contest 10-2 (six innings).

PC has now taken two-out-of-three against Winthrop (who is on pace to win the league's regular season title), Gardner-Webb, and the Buccaneers who are the latest victims. They've completed their competitions at home, going 12-11 in Clinton.

Thanks to a Radford sweep over G-W, the Blue Hose are in a solid position to return to the postseason for the first time since 2022. Just one victory in the upcoming series at USC Upstate would guarantee that ticket.

Saturday denoted the final two home games in the careers of six terrific seniors: Morgan Farthing, Maddi Wood, Peyton Duncan, Gracie DeCuir, Blair Darby, and Molly Mattas.

Before PC can turn their attention to the Big South closer at Upstate, they will first visit last year's ACC tournament champion Clemson next Tuesday. First pitch there is scheduled for 6:00.

GAME TWO – Presbyterian def. Charleston Southern, 6-2

- Following a 7-5 victory yesterday to start the series on a positive note, Presbyterian posted a very balanced performance in the first half of the DH to clinch the series.

- Head coach David Williams got six runs from six different players and seven hits from seven different players to seize their fourth straight W, never trailing after an initial 5-run advantage.

- Sophomore shortstop Baxleigh Arnette had a hand in PC's first three scores, bringing home two on an RBI triple and then getting home herself after a wild pitch.

- A two-run knock from Farthing pushed the lead to 5-0, which was more than enough for Duncan to grab her 32nd career win.

- None of Charleston Southern's first 10 batters could reach base against Duncan, who recently became the third pitcher in school history to surpass 300 strikeouts.

- She tossed her ninth complete game of the year while giving up just three hits and fanning five. The senior induced five separate 1-2-3 innings, as both of CSU's runs were unearned due to an outfield error.

- PC's offense stayed patient against Bucs starter Kinsey Clopton, drawing seven total walks to win their seventh Big South affair of the spring.

GAME THREE – Charleston Southern def. Presbyterian, 10-2 (Six Innings)

- The series finale had an opposite tone as Charleston Southern avoided the sweep, turning a 4-1 edge into a run-rule by scoring six times in the 6th inning.

- PC managed their two runs from Avery Robinson on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Farthing. CSU spread out 13 hits to salvage Game Three.

- Kylie Rast was Presbyterian's starter in the home closer, lasting 3.1 innings with two unearned runs charged to her. Robinson and rookie Kaylee Huckaby dealt to the last 16 batters.
