GREENVILLE, S.C. – It was an eventful afternoon at the park for the Presbyterian College softball team on Tuesday, facing Furman in a non-conference doubleheader and splitting the results. They busted out a 5-1 victory in the first affair, but could not complete the sweep in the rematch as the Paladins walked it off 7-6.
PC now sits at 15-25 through the first 40 games of the season, getting at least one hit from seven starters in the initial meeting. Game Two saw four lead changes as Presby split with Furman for the second year in a row.
Junior
Avery Robinson turned in her sixth complete game in a Blue Hose uniform to slam the door in the opener, never walking any of the 27 batters that she faced and logging three consecutive 1-2-3 innings.
Head coach
David Williams' roster will return to Big South territory this weekend also on the road, traveling to Gardner-Webb for a single game on Friday which precedes a doubleheader on the 11
th.
NOTABLES
- Although her 18-game hitting streak came to an end in the first matchup, reigning conference Freshman of the Week
Hali Duke still reached base safely five times during Tuesday's double feature (three walks, two singles).
- Presbyterian closed Game One on a 5-0 flurry, benefitting from a couple of two-run knocks by
Audrey Burton and
Morgan Farthing.
- Robinson didn't let the Dins score at all over the last six innings to add another check in the win column, although Furman would counter in round two by finding four total runs in the 6
th and 7
th frames.
-
Peyton Duncan tossed the entirety of the second contest, needing only three more strikeouts to become the third pitcher in PC's Division I history with 300 plus for her career.
GAME ONE – Presbyterian def. Furman, 5-1
- It took a bit of time for the Scotsmen to crank up their offense against Kristyn Embler (who was voted the SoCon Pitcher of the Week yesterday), but they got just enough in the 5
th and 6
th to allow a comfortable victory.
- Burton broke the ice for PC with a two-run single against the same opponent that she had her first three-hit game against last spring, setting the stage for
Gracie DeCuir to make it 3-1 on an infield single of her own.
- Farthing picked up the 15
th and 16
th RBI of her senior stint to finalize the scoring, granting the Blue Hose a workmanlike win against an in-state rival.
- Robinson's last two starts have resulted in a complete game (dating back to the Longwood series on Easter weekend), combining for 13 strikeouts and just three free passes over that span.
GAME TWO – Furman def. Presbyterian, 7-6
- Duke, Robinson,
Blair Darby, and
Baxleigh Arnette calculated eight of Presby's 10 hits in the second duel, a game that saw 10 total runs in the last four innings.
- After a two-run homer put the Paladins on top in the 4
th, PC answered with a four-spot in the next half-inning. All but one of those runs were error-assisted, save for a Darby RBI-single.
- Unfortunately for the powder blues, Furman closed the doubleheader with four straight runs and walked it off on a double by centerfielder Katie Peeler.
- It is the third time in 2026 that PC has fallen via walk-off, making the Blue Hose 3-5 against fellow South Carolina universities this season.
