PC Suffers First Defeat of Season at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team completed its first of two games in North Dakota on Thursday evening (Aug. 27), falling to the Fighting Hawks 2-1.

After North Dakota opened the contest with a goal in the 15th minute, Julia Poplašen leveled the proceedings late in the half, scoring the equalizer in the 44th minute to tie the game.

The Blue Hose had chances in the second half to go ahead, but the Fighting Hawks grabbed the lead in the 83rd minute. The late goal from North Dakota proved to be decisive, as the Fighting Hawks held on at the end to win 2-1.

Presbyterian will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon, completing its road trip in North Dakota against the North Dakota State Bison at 2:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- North Dakota jumped ahead to open the game in the 15th minute, as Lillian Bashaw found the back of the net.

- The Fighting Hawks stayed ahead until Julija Poplašen evened the contest late in the half. Poplašen tied the game at one apiece, scoring an unassisted goal to give the Blue Hose momentum going into the break. The goal is the first of the junior's collegiate career.

- The game stayed level until late in the contest when North Dakota's Annie Stook scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute.

- The Fighting Hawks held an 8-4 shot advantage in the first half, but the Blue Hose closed the gap in the second frame, holding a 7-5 advantage.

- Alexa Garcia recorded a season-high five saves to lead the way defensively for the Blue Hose.

- Anna Hussey, Emma Brown, Julija Poplašen each tallied two shots for Presbyterian. Hussey and Sydney Stoner recorded a shot on goal.

- This was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
