Blue Hose Secure Opening Day Win Over Grambling State

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team emerged victorious on the first day of the 2026 season, defeating Grambling State in four sets on Friday morning (Aug. 28) 30-32, 25-12, 25-20, 25-21 at The Coliseum. The Blue Hose dropped a narrow first set before establishing control, cruising through the ensuing three sets to claim the victory.

Offensively, Courtney Williams and Ashley Miller led the way with 14 kills apiece. Anisa Dorlouis was dominant as well for the Blue Hose, recording her first career triple-double. She delivered 33 assists, 19 digs, and 12 kills for PC.

Celimar Hoyos led the PC defense, tying her career-high with 28 digs. Brittney Daphnis recorded a team-high 3.5 total blocks as well.


SET ONE – GRAMBLING STATE 32, PC 30

- In a dramatic opening frame, the Blue Hose jumped all over the Tigers to start the season, winning six of the first eight points in the first set behind kills from Courtney Williams, Anisa Dorlouis, and Ashley Miller.

- Grambling State responded fast, taking the next five points to eventually grab its first lead of the morning. PC regained the lead in the middle of the set, going up 15-11 after a block by Brittney Daphnis.

- Presbyterian maintained a four-point advantage in the later stages of the set before Grambling State leapt back in front, owning a 19-18 lead.

- Both teams had ample chances to claim the opening frame. The Tigers held a 24-22 lead, but the Blue Hose battled again and again to stay in the set. In the end, PC saved a total of six set points before Grambling State finally closed the door, taking the first set 32-30.


SET TWO – PC 25, GRAMBLING STATE 12

 - Presbyterian got off the mat in a major way in the second, dominating the second set from start to finish. The Blue Hose quickly surged ahead and never looked back, claiming 12 of the first 13 points of the frame.

- Grambling State cut the deficit to seven in the middle of the set, but the Blue Hose surged back ahead by double-digits.

- PC finished off a dominant set two on an attack error to take the frame 25-12, leveling the match at a set apiece. The Blue Hose recorded a .385 hitting percentage in the frame, also recording 12 kills, five service aces, and two blocks.
 

 

SET THREE – PC 25, GRAMBLING STATE 20

- Presbyterian picked up right where it left off to open the third, taking four of the first six points in the frame. The set was tight, but PC managed to hold a narrow advantage through the middle of the set.

- Ahead by just one up 17-16, the Blue Hose stepped on the gas, dominating the rest of the frame to take the lead in the match. Back-to-back kills from Dorlouis helped PC ice the set, claiming the third 25-20 to surge ahead in Carrollton.

- Presbyterian stayed hot offensively in the third, producing 15 kills and .295 hitting percentage.


SET FOUR – PC 25, GRAMBLING STATE 21

- The Tigers responded well to begin the fourth, beginning the set with a 5-1 lead. The Blue Hose trailed by as many as six to start the set but quickly chipped away at the deficit. 

- Kills from Daphnis and Williams helped PC embark on an 8-1 run to claim a 14-12 lead. The Tigers tied the set once more at 15 apiece before Presbyterian pulled away for good. 

- Service aces from Dorlouis and Amaris Alvarez buoyed the Blue Hose before Williams finished out the match with a kill, helping PC claim a 3-1 victory to open the year.


NOTABLES

- This was the first ever meeting between the two teams.

- This is Presbyterian's first win in a season opener since 2016.

- Anisa Dorlouis produced a career day for PC, recording her first career triple-double. She contributed 33 assists, 19 digs, and 12 kills.

- As a team, Presbyterian registered 61 kills, its highest total since logging 62 against USC Upstate on Nov. 22, 2024.

- The Blue Hose recorded a .254 hitting percentage as a team.

- Three Blue Hose players posted double-digit kills: Courtney Williams (14), Ashley Miller (14), and Dorlouis (12).

- Celimar Hoyos tied her career-high with 28 digs. She also had 28 digs at USC Upstate on Nov. 1, 2024.

- Defensively, Brittney Daphnis recorded two solo blocks and three block assists to power the Blue Hose.

The Blue Hose will play a doubleheader on Saturday in Carrollton. First, PC will face Northwestern State at 10:00 a.m. before closing out the weekend against West Georgia at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
