RICHMOND, Ky. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (6-8) rallied from a two-set deficit in its final match of the Geri Polvino Invitational on Saturday morning (Sept. 19) before falling to Tennessee Tech 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 23-25, 15-8 at Baptist Health Arena.
In its final non-conference match, PC took a narrow fourth frame to force a deciding set, but the Golden Eagles retook the momentum to claim a 3-2 victory.
Meredith Reisman powered the Blue Hose at the net, recording a career-high eight blocks. Courtney Williams and Julia Yurkovich registered double-digit kills, logging 11 and 10 respectively.
Anisa Dorlouis came away with another double-double, posting 27 assists and 14 digs. Defensively, Celimar Hoyos recorded 17 digs to lead Presbyterian.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE – TENNESSEE TECH 25, PC 22
- In a tight opening set, both teams traded the lead from one another early. Tennessee Tech took an 11-7 lead before kills by Emma McHatten and Meredith Reisman got PC within one down 14-13.
- Tennessee Tech narrowly held on to its lead, but a block by Reisman and Julia Yurkovich evened the frame at 17 apiece.
- Late in the set, a kill by Courtney Williams tied the frame at 22, forcing a Tennessee Tech timeout. However, the Golden Eagles finished strong, claiming the final three points to grab the opening set.
SET TWO – TENNESSEE TECH 25, PC 20
- The Golden Eagles jumped out a quick lead in the second set, building a 6-3 advantage. Tennessee Tech extended its lead to four before the Blue Hose responded.
- Presbyterian won four straight points to tie the set at 10, highlighted by a kill from Yurkovich. However, the Golden Eagles went back in front, claiming the ensuing four points in the frame.
- Presbyterian got within three late in the set down 21-18, but Tennessee Tech answered and won the second set to take a 2-0 lead.
SET THREE – PC 25, TENNESSEE TECH 20
- The Blue Hose got off a strong start in the third, winning three of the first four points of the set. Presbyterian grew the lead to five to go up 11-6 after an attack error by Tennessee Tech.
- The Golden Eagles closed the gap to two down 15-13, but PC stayed resilient. Kills from Williams and Anisa Dorlouis put Presbyterian back in front by four.
- A block by Reisman followed by a kill from Williams set up a set point chance for PC. Yurkovich sealed the set with a kill, getting Presbyterian on the board.
SET FOUR – PC 25, TENNESSEE TECH 23
- Tennessee Tech won the first four points of the fourth before the Blue Hose surged ahead, claiming four straight points to go up 6-5.
- The two teams began to go back-and-forth in the middle of the set, trading the lead from one another. The Golden Eagles finally separated to go up 18-13, but Presbyterian did not go away.
- Down by five, PC embarked on a 10-2 run to flip the momentum and take the lead late in the set. Kills by Dorlouis and McHatten completed the comeback, helping PC even the match at two sets all.
SET FIVE – TENNESSEE TECH 15, PC 8
- Tennessee Tech sprinted ahead to open the fifth set, taking a 7-2 lead over the Blue Hose. A service ace by Amaris Alvarez cut the deficit to three, but the Golden Eagles fended off the final push.
- The Golden Eagles claimed the fifth set 15-8 to close out the weekend, coming away with a 3-2 win.
NOTABLES
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
- This was PC's first five-set match of the season.
- Meredith Reisman logged a new career-high at the net, posting eight total blocks.
- Anisa Dorlouis recorded her ninth double-double of the season.
- Courtney WIlliams logged double-digit kills for the sixth time this year.
- Four other Blue Hose players recorded at least three blocks: Williams (4), Julia Yurkovich (3), Dorlouis (3), and Brittney Daphnis (3).
- As a team, PC owned a big advantage defensively at the net, recording a season-high 13 blocks.
