GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (3-2) battled to the end against Furman on Thursday night (Sept. 3) at Furman at Timmons Arena. Presbyterian claimed the first set but suffered a narrow defeat in four sets to the Paladins 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23.
Presbyterian grabbed control out of the gate, controlling the opening frame to take an early lead. The Blue Hose stayed close the rest of the way, but Furman claimed the final three points of the match in the fourth set to edge out PC in the end.
Ashley Miller led Presbyterian on the offensive end, producing 14 kills. Anisa Dorlouis delivered yet again, posting 24 assists to go along with 16 digs.
Celimar Hoyos recorded her second career double-double for the Blue Hose, recording 19 digs and 10 assists. Defensively, Meredith Reisman delivered a strong performance, leading Presbyterian with five total blocks.
SET ONE – PC 25, FURMAN 19
- Presbyterian grabbed control of the proceedings to begin the evening, quickly taking a 4-2 lead to start the match. Furman went on a run to go ahead, but Meredith Reisman produced back-to-back highlights to put PC back in front 10-9.
- PC established control in the middle of the set, taking a four-point 16-12 lead after a service ace from Emma McHatten.
- The Blue Hose dominated the rest of the set, using clutch kills from Brittney Daphnis and Anisa Dorlouis to grab the early lead on the road.
- As a team, Presbyterian delivered nine kills while making just three errors. The team produced a .222 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
SET TWO – FURMAN 25, PC 16
- Furman responded in the second set, taking six of the first nine points of the frame. Presbyterian got within two multiple times in the early going, but the Paladins stayed in front by a narrow margin.
- Furman was ahead 14-11 in the set before Presbyterian used a 4-1 run to even the frame at 15 apiece, highlighted by two kills from Ashley Miller.
- The Paladins grabbed the momentum right back late in the set, winning 10 of the final 11 points to tie the match at a set apiece.
SET THREE – FURMAN 25, PC 21
- Furman picked up where it left off in the third, quickly grabbing a 4-1 advantage. A kill from Reagan Hare and an attack error helped PC get right back in it, tying the set at seven.
- The Paladins inched back in front in the middle of the set before the Blue Hose showed their resiliency with another run. Down 18-14, Presbyterian won six straight points to claim a 20-18 lead late in the frame.
- With PC ahead by two, Furman controlled the rest of the set. The Paladins dropped just one more point in the third, winning the set 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
SET FOUR – FURMAN 25, PC 23
- The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair. Both teams had the lead early, as neither side was able to separate from the other.
- Furman led 10-7, but Presbyterian got the momentum right back in the middle of the set, going ahead 18-15 after a kill from Courtney Williams and a service ace by Amaris Alvarez.
- Furman retook the lead late in the set to go up 20-18 before PC made one more push. The Blue Hose jumped in front 23-22 after an attack error, forcing a Furman timeout. However, the Paladins took the final three points of the fourth to win a nail-biter in Greenville.
NOTABLES
- This was the 22nd all-time matchup between the two programs.
- Presbyterian has won the opening set in four of its five matches this season.
- Ashley Miller tied her season-high in kills, delivering 14 to lead the PC offense. She also had 14 kills in Presbyterian's season opening win over Grambling State.
- Celimar Hoyos produced on both ends, posting her second career double-double with 19 digs and a season-high 10 assists. Hoyos also had a double-double against Furman on Aug. 29, 2025.
- Mereith Reisman was dominant once again defensively, coming away with five total blocks.
- Anisa Dorlouis registered her third double-double of the year, logging 24 assists and 16 digs.
- Amaris Alvarez recorded a season-high 13 digs.
- As a team, the Blue Hose finished the night with 48 kills and a .133 hitting percentage.
